First thing that comes to mind is are you "backing up" NTSC DVD's or PAL?

yeah i had the same problem the reason 4 y the movie doesn't play on your dvd player is because at the moment the dvd that u have downloaded is a pc format which are usually Divx and Xvid files.

The solution to this is to convert the movie to dvd file which contains VOB files and then burn it onto a dvd disc.
A program which i have used is VSO Divx To DVD converter.

this application is designed to convert files (AVI, DIVX, VOB, satellite streams, MPEG, IVX, WMV etc.) to a compatible DVD file structure. This can be useful if you want to watch a video file on your TV using a standard home DVD player rather than on your PC.

It works just fine give it a go.
