You need to get "Chapter Xtractor v0.961" to get the chapters ripped. They won't be the same as original DVD but will be close (1 min or so diference).
Do a search on google or somewhere and you should find it.........

Please excuse my ignorance but I am very new to this. I just ripped a DVD about some movie involving "Parents" and when I played the movie the DVD player would not advance by,I guess chapters? would the software you mentioned correct this problem so if I stopped the DVD in the middle it would resume at that point?

Yes it will.
If you don't add chapters to your movie you will get one long film just like a VCD.
The only way to get to the middle is to forward search and this takes a while.
Extracting the chapters means that you get about 12 points in the film where you can jump to. (a whole lot faster)
Go here and have a read (especially PART 4)and it should give you a better idea.
