I am downloading a torrent file.

When I have done, I have no idea what to do.

I was hoping to have it figured by the time it finishes but no luck so far.

Here is what I see:

Main Folder:

CD1 - Folder
CD2 - Folder
Sample - Folder
name.name (changed) - MSInfo Document

Within CD1 I see several numbered files, ex: name.r41, consecutively until r55 and one .sfv file.

The same with CD2

Within Sample, there is an as yet undownloaded MPEG file (0 k)

The MSNInfo document says nothing either.

What is my first step going to have to be?

Your first step will be to read this thread:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/83614

Post once you've done step 1

Step 2 will be figuring out what to do with the new file from step 1!!

It seems Praetor would rather blame people for not seeking his particular titles than making them clearer himself, but the advice given was simple and useful.

My download has not yet finished, but I'll be back here when it is :)

I always keep in my mind 'we all had to learn somehow'

Anyways, once you're d/l finishes, you'll need to unrar (you'll need WinRar). So, open the .001 file and select to extract the contents to a file folder of your choosing. Winrar will start extracting .001 right up to the last one.

The end result, if successfull will be a new file.
If things don't work during the extraction process, you've either got a corrupted download or a bad file, or a missing .XXX rar file in the pack.

Let me know what type this new file is to get to step 2 (dealing with it)
I'll be back on in about 8hrs after this post
work, sleep, work, sleep!!!!
Life's too damn short

Surely it will unrar whats in one folder. As there are two, what happens there? Do you make two movies and stick them together?

If they are avi's, then you can use VirtualDub, to join them. If they are mpegs, then you can use something like dvtools, to join them Both apps are free, and easy to use.
good luck

Im not asking about file formats and how to convert. Im asking what happens with the rarred files once then have been unrarred, given that there are two folders?

Do the one set in one folder all join up in and the others in the second also join, you then needing to join those two together, or is there something else?

Youll have 2 files, one in each folder, then you can join them with whatever.

jlrm365, how are you making out?

Do you have both folders, cd1 and cd2 unrared yet?

I see you also getting some extra help here too.
Excellent!

You will need to unrar twice, once for each cd.

I not sure what you got, but you may have a two disc movie, so burn it to two cds(vcd, svcd)
If it's a dvd file, yes you can join them, but that is a little more complex, and you'll need room enough on one dvdr.

Like,jim_dandy says, you need to know what you've .AVI,.mpeg to figure out how to deal with it.
Post back on your progress

It's quite unclear, even having read that link you gave me.

I unrared the first file in each folder, to seperate Folder1 and Folder2 folders respectively.

I now have, in Folder1: file-name1 (changed): 825,563KB Type: BIN File
I now have, in Folder2: file-name2 (changed): 793,778KB Type: BIN File

What on earth am I supposed to do with them now? How?

Thanks.

So... with those two files and that information... what do I do?

My end goals are:

- join them
- put them on a dvd
- watch them, on a standalone dvd player, as any other dvd could be watched

If you mention software, please give a brief description of how to use it and certainly a link to where to get it.

Thanks.

Just for everyone who reads this thread.

This is the way you get help.

We all can't be at our pc's 24/7, so other members may jump in to help, as did this one, but i'm quite sure jlrm365 is gonna finnish his task.

Patience is a definite virtue, and jlrm365 , thanks for stick'in to one thread.

In no time, with the right software, you'll be mastering video files.

If you start to think about the many conversions you may have to do, to get the end product, it soons become very clear what you have to do!

THE ABSCENSE OF KNOWLEDGE IS IGNORANCE.

Not asking for help, is just plain stupid.

Does anyone remember how frustrated they were when their pc wouldn't do what they want?

Right back at ya....

Hi Guys,

I have had a similar problem. The file I unzipped was a 2CD SVCD file. I burnt the first file to CD using Alcohol 120% but the second file is too large to fit on to a CD.

What would you recommend? Many thanks.

Similar problem to... ?

I began this thread to get films onto DVDs, not VCDs.

Check this out:

WinAVI Video convert 6.3

http://www.winavi.com/video-converter.htm

"All video format to DVD/VCD/SVCD/MPEG"

Weycraze

"This is the way you get help"
I am hoping that's a compliment, but how else would someone get help?

"it soons become very clear what you have to do"
Just get on and do them!

"you'll be mastering video files"
See below!

For anyone reading...

I began with:
Mounting CD Images with Daemon Tools
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/multiple_svcd_on_dvdr_page_3.cfm

I substituted:
Processing and Burning the DVD
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/multiple_svcd_on_dvdr_page_5.cfm

Instead, I used:
- WinAVI Video convert 6.3 (to convert to DVD burnable format)
- DVD Shrink (to burn DVD)

I have managed to form a perfect DVD, from a torrent download, using the above stages!

Yes, jlrm365, that was a compliment.

It's nice to see a thread from beginning to end.

WinAVI, nice little app eh?

"It's nice to see a thread from beginning to end"
I have altered my last thread, to be a little more clear.

"WinAVI, nice little app eh?"
For certain.

For .avi to DVD conversion I prefer VSO's software, but WinAVI is wonderful also!

For anyone reading...

It's a wonderful feeling to have managed something so "essential".

Please feel free to send me a private message(Click "Compose a private message", near the afterdawn logo at the top) or leave questions in this thread.

I have learned much since my first post in this thread, from other people and other forums, and would be glad to pass it on :)

Surley it doesn't matter what media you put the files on to. Either one DVD or two CD's the quality will be the same as it is still only a SVCD file, not DVD?
