I purchased a 15 pack of Maxell DVD-R 8x at Walmart. I opened the cakebox and burned the first DVD. The first DVD was a Maxell 8x DVD-. However the rest of the DVD-R in the cakebox are Memorex "cool colors" 8x DVDs. The packaging was factory sealed plastic, no evidence of tampering. Has anyone ever seen such a thing? The Memorex will not work in my machine (Sony DRU 510) - they spec out as Riteks.

Looks like someone might have pulled a fast one and you bought returned items.

If you still have the receipt, take them back for a refund, or replacement.

You know what, I went and dug through the trash and found the packaging, and now I am thinking that it was not factory sealed. I see now that there was scotch tape at the seal. That said, someone was VERY careful and put alot of time and effort into not ruining the plastic when they originally removed it and then taping it back up. The trouble ppl will go through for $10?
I thought at first Memorex may have been owned by Maxell, but it seems like it was just a return?

I still have the receipt (not in the trash). So I will be going over there to exchange them. Funny thing my Sony DRU-510 recognizes the Memorex DVD-R as a CD, it doesn't even recognize it as a DVD.

I'm sorry but I found this thread a little ammusing so I just had to reply :-) I was just sitting here and I couldnt help put think that the person that turned those disks back in to WalMart is probably a AD member? LOL ... Very clever indeed LOL :-)
Also wanted to add I don't condone this type of behavior. I just got a pretty good chuckle out of it :-)

It must not be that hard to pull the wool over the eyes of the walmart return counter. Whenever I've gone there(rarely) there's all kinds of things on the shelves that look like they've been returned.(in the electronics section anyway) Hope jgarden doesn't have any trouble trying to return them, they might think he's the one trying to pull a fast one.

wolfniggr, I was thinking the same thing - hopefully they won't think that I am doing the "switch."
BTW, for further amusement of our readers. The first disk was a Maxell and when it burnt nice and clean and then worked in my set top player I was really happy....then I tried to burn the next disk - that didn't work and then the next one and that didn't work. I was going nuts. The Memorex disks look VERY similar to the Maxell and it took me some time to figure this all out.
Also the person who did the switch, put in 15 Memorex disks and 1 Maxell (the pkg is only supposed to have 15 disks. I guess they figured, they would give the poor sucker (ME) one Maxell, so they knew what they were missing.

No, they wanted to make sure the top disk was a Maxell since you can see it when wrapped. They didn't have enough brain to think about only putting in 14 Memorex. Thieves have never been known to be real smart anyway or else they wouldn't need to resort to being a thief. Can't you just see what they did and thought. Hmmm. Everyone recommends Maxell's. I'll go buy some and swap my Memorex and take them back for a refund.
It never stops amazing me what some people will do to rip others off.

Thats funny! Memorex is so crappy he gave that 15th disk cause he didn't want it free or otherwise. You thought he was dumb but really he was smart. I like to buy new and put old stuff in the package and return to tram-law. I had to quit buying stuff from there cause they sell low quality shizz. You should see my computer stand all peeling and junk. Hey bbmayo, I condone it.
