"budget"brand media with Taiyo Yuden tag??

I recently tested my " budget" brand media with a couple of dvd info programs to discover they were manufactured by Taiyo Yuden,
is this right or are they as i assume fakes?
but whats the point of faking the manufacture tag when the disc brand is obviously not one that would use this expensive dye??

No question, they are fakes and I think CDfreaks.com has a long list of budget brands that do this. With real TY media at $30 it is hard to see why they do this other than to sell overseas or on Ebay. At least here in the US (so far) it is sold as budget and not passed of as genuine.

i have just recently acquired some 8x dvd-r, unfortunately i don't know who makes them, but this is what i got when i used Disk Identifier...could you shed some light as to if i got REAL TY's or not? Seemingly, you are the TY expert in here and i thought i would give you a shout out to ask an expert on the subject. these were given to me in a 25 pack from a friend, it had no label or distinguishing marks on the pack.

Did you ask your friend where he aquired them?
Genuine TY's will have no distinguishing marks on them :-) I don't really consider myself an expert on TY's I just try to do some research on the media I would like to purchace. I try to do everything possible to make sure I am getting what I am paying for. I know the lady I have been writing emails to all the time at TY is probably sick of me. :-) I will give them that though they usually respond to all my emails with in a day. :-)
Supermedia Store is an excellent place to make sure you get genuine TY's ....
You say your not having as great success at burning those x8? Have you updated the firmware for your drive lately? this could solve your problems :-)

look for a number right where the dye starts on top of the disc. you should have a number like GG000xxx
your 4x should have GD000xxx on them

Hey thats pretty cool kchev.. :-) How did you find that out I just looked at mine and low and behold I have them markings.. I asked the beyach from TY if they had any identifing markings and she told me no..

thanks for the input guys, my friend got them from some online company, he doesn't remember the website unfortunately...also, i am looking at the surface right now and there is NO indication of those numbers...the numbers i have on here are
: -r8x DH-05-19
and the numbers inscribed on the inner hub are : 0L15MH0411300243C
well, i got no clue if these are authentic or not, since when comparing with the 4x TY's i bought from supermediastore, the numbers are completely different.
@kchev on these 8x i do not see the GG000.. or GD000....but, i see them on my 4x TYs from supermediastore.
@bbmayo i know there is a newer firmware for this sony of mine, however, i noticed it DOES NOT WORK well w/ any of the media i use; so, i reverted it back to this 2nd firmware rather than using the newest one. just a trial and test from personal experience, go with what works right? hehe

could you please email that TY representative that you keep in touch with about the serial numbers i wrote in the above post? ask her/him if it seems legit or are definitely fake. i did NOT find any of the GG or GD markings on any of these 25 dvd-r. the reason i am asking you for a small favor with the email is that i am helping my friend attempt to try to get a refund on these "supposed fakes" after i did the scan on them. he says he bought like 300 of them all in 25pk spindles (12 spindles total of which he gave 1 spindle to me) while on the BOX the media came in in LARGE letters stated "MADE IN TAIWAN"; as i mentioned earlier, there are no distinguishing marks on the spindle or on the disc itself, other than the 2 numbers i posted above on the disc itself. thank you for your help earlier and i hope i can get a straight answer from someone at TY about this through you of course~ thanks

why oh why when i got into this dvd burning lark did i get swayed by the bulkpaq 8x orange tubs of 25. I bought and burnt literally 100s of the things, now nearly every one i go to watch, skip. before anyone posts 'use decent media' - i do now, have been for quite a while - Verbatim datalifeplus 8x burnt at 4x. My point is the bulkpaq's have media code 'tyg02' which (some months ago) i found where fake crap.
One of these days i guess i'll have to go thru whole collection and redo any bulkpaq's on proper media (from the original discs of course, not from the orange crap).

all might not be lost however. have you or your mate tried the usual things, like lower burn speed blah blah blah, target limit in DVD Shrink etc. The discs may prove to be perfectly usable albeit with a few compromises. When i was buying the bulkpaq's, it was many many 100s that i'd used fine, but must have got a bad batch and was able to get a refund on the unopened spindles. From then on i only have to worry about any bulkpaq's that i won't get round to watching for ages, there are probably loads that i will end up having to reburn from originals. it could take a very long time to banish the crap copies from my collection, i'd do it all in one hit but don't wanna think how long it would take , AGAIN!!! :)

yea, i would hate to think how long that would take you to REBURN all from the bad media onto new ones. anyways, to answer your question, yes, i have my computer setup w/ all the latest versions of shrink, AnyDVD, decryptor, Nero, etc...w/ all the usual compromise options clicked. i just hope that at least w/ these fake TYs...they will last for awhile and will still be playable even 6 months from now, we've pretty much given up on getting a refund, guess it's a lesson learned..the hard way~ thanks for your input.
