I just used dvd decrypter to burn gt4 on a verbatim dvd+r dl. i used swap magic 3.3 and it wont read it in make a noise while spinning. is this because it a + disc and not a - or is it because its a dual layer. IS THERE A WAY ROUND IT TO COPY IT.

Gigabyte EX58 EXTREME > Intel i7 920 D0 2.66Ghz (OC 4.2ghz 50C Load) > Corsair Ram 3gb 1333 @ 667MHz(OC 1600 @ 800MHz 9,10,10,25) > All watercooled with XSPC + Dual res with pump > XFX GTX 280 > Corsair HX1000 > Antec 900 (all fans on full speed)

The reason it will not boot is because the Swap Magic TOC is only 4.35Gig.the actual game GT4 is around 4.8Gig in size,so no the swap magic will not boot GT4 because of its TOC size.If the Swap Magic makers made the TOC bigger on the Swap Magic discs to support dual layer media then it could be possible, but at the moment it is not possible unless ripped to a certain size(which is not an easy task since the game GT4 is alot different than all the other games).

No there is no way at the moment, maybe in due time but not at the moment.GT4 peeps need to give it some time, instead of making numerous threads that lead to nothing.C'Mon peeps search before making another thread,it will save you some time and space here.

i do not have swap-magic,but i think you can load games with a high TOC value with swapmagic,
you need to use a DVD-9 to increase the TOC value
something like xenosaga

I would like to give some info about GT4 hoping that one of the Guru-s might finaly make a copy of that game. If you make Nero image of the GT4 and copy that on DVD-R-DL, AnyDVD will show you that you have a 2 layer disk but opposite instead of parallel. However, if you create an image with Alcohol 120% and load in their virtual drive AnyDVD will show you that you have right configuration but Alcohol 120% does not support burning Double density disks, and I don't know if you would have it right even if it does support. Furthermore, If you create Nero image of burned (not working) GT4 disk - load it in Alcohol 120%'s virtual drive and open it with IsoBuster Pro something interesting will happen: It Shows that you have a TRACK 2 without TRACK 1. ALSO, if you load Alchohol Image in virtual drive, IsoBuster will show that you have TRACK 1 without TRACK 2. Can somebody think that isolating track 1 and track 2 separately and after, creating a new disk without hidden tracks might be a solution for creating a working copy!?!?

Nah it doesn't work Hursty if you do a TOC refresh with a Dvd9 game. What happens is it only recognizes the first layer, but fails to read the second layer of the disc.I tried both ways using high TOC refresh and even Swap Magic, but neither one will work.I do have some thought though on what the problem is,the game has alot of dvd checks which is making it fail to boot.If someone could find the dvd checks on this game,it could be possible since this would make the system stop checking the disc numerous times and would only check once and then read the disc.I have the game on a Verbatim Dvd+R DL disc, but swap magic will not work with dual layer media. It only works with Dvd5 media, because the swap magic people didn't integrate the disc to check for the second layer. It would be cool if they made the TOC size bigger on Swap Magic and made the cd version of swap magic check for the second layer though.I think this would solve alot of problems on games, which would give us the option to put Dvd9 games on Dvd+R DL media(full game without ripping anything).I heard some news though that the Toxic team are working on this issue as well.

Heh that is a funny one TRegal, but do you really think people will stop posting about GT4.I bet you in a day someone will make a new thread talking about GT4,if not a new thread posts are bound to happen. The problem is all these threads should be closed, none of them relate to anything decent on backing up GT4.

It's funny you mention that. Since that one 1000+ post thread got closed, now there's gonna be 1000+ threads about this game.

Squizzle it is crazy though for real, nobody wants to hear about something said over 1,000 times man.Unless it is actually something new, then no it will not benefit to anyone. It is just a waste of time for people to read, and doesn't get any of us anywhere. That is why I plan on sitting back, and SEARCHING for the answer.I think this is the problem not alot of people do a search or try to look up the issues before posting.

you're definitely right about that one. I'm still gonna try to crack it on my own. I know I'm probably wasting my time and effort, but someone's gotta do it right? Seems most other people have either given up or are waiting for someone else to do the dirty work.

I'm not really giving up on it,but I haven't been successful either so I don't post or anything because of I am unsuccessful.I am trying different methods here and there, but alot of work has to be done for this game I think. That is my only downfall,it takes a long time and I have other stuff I have do so it kinda throws me off track when I go back to work on it.Squizzle good luck bro,I hope you get it working man.I do suggest checking out the dvd checks of the game though. If you can find and alter those you can get the game working. The reason I say this is because I just read someone using a Duo2SE modchip and it can actually play the game, problem is everytime it loads to a certain screen. He said he has to eject the disc tray, and plug the game back in.I think this is why the dvd checks are the reason the game is not booting. The reason why it is doing this,is because the system rechecks the disc and makes it fail to load any further.Anyways I am going to sit back and chill maybe work on it here and there, best of luck.

Hi to all!

I've got some questions...

Does the ps2 try to read the 2nd layer and just cant find what it is looking for, or does it check for PTP and doesn't even try to read the 2nd layer because it's OTP, or is it looking for a Lead-in on the 2nd layer?

How is the data accessed (if trying to read)? Is it trying to read from sector numbers or by another method.
If its trying to read the 2nd layer (OTP mode), will it try to find sector information like in PTP mode or is it controlled by drive firmware/bios?

If it tries to check for a 2nd layer then it might be possible to emulate a PTP disc.

PS. Sorry for my bad English...

News from the ps2nfo website on GT4 :)
Quote:
As for the next Toxic BiOS & OS release, the DVD9 Dual Layer recordable backups of DVD9 originals (including Gran Turismo 4) can be used thanks to a software driver patch for OTP disks by Team Toxic. Team Toxic may decide to release an ISO patcher at a later date.

a patcher is in the works for release to use on non dms4 modchips so the rest of you will be able to burn using dvd+r media and a dual layer burner.

So it's coming be patient lol :)

That would be awesome if they get it working. But that leads me to another question: I have a V4 modded PS2 that doesn't seem to play +R media. Does anyone know if you booktype it as a DVD-ROM will that work for PS2's that don't like +R media?

OMG people are so stupid... There is no possible way at this point that you can make a backup of this game. The only way right now is the hack coming out to play dual layer dvd's. There are hackers in the process of doing it however. Ok... I'll try to explain it. If you make an ISO of this game using DVD decryptor you will notice that the game only comes out to being 3.5 gigs or something like that. However, when you try to burn it to a single layer dvd it will tell you that there is not enough space. So, The reason being is that the second layer is EXACTLY the same as the first layer except it is written backwards, which currently there are no burners that are able to do that (that i am aware of). The PS2 will only actually read from data from the first layer, like a dvd rom. What it does, is on the first layer there are thousands of references to places and files and points on the second layer. Even though data is not read from there it has to be there. So basically what has to be done is that some enthusiastic person has to go through and find EVERY reference to the second layer on the first layer and instead point it to a place on the first layer. Then after all of this is done you have to rip the second layer out completely and burn the first layer to a dvd5. I know all this because I know the person who is currently doing it. Currently, the game is about 70% playable on a DVD5. Ok, hopefully this will clear it up.

yes they have,it is possible to back this game up,but not with your everyday d/layered burner,it has been explained to me,now i may have this arse about tit,but the game has been written on an PTP disc, where as a dual layered verbatim or imation d/layered disc writes in OTP,this is where we are running into trouble... screen blackouts after first screen credits, now i'm lead to believe there is a crowd releasing some kind of patch(patches the image to suit the retail dl discs, verbatim) to rectify this problem, and soon i hope.
