Whoa wait Toolboy I thought you got Dvd9 media working bro, wasn't sure but heard something from like ps2-scene saying something like that.I think it could be possible if you join the two .VOL files together man.The .VOL files are actually one file man,so if you can join the .VOL files it will burn it proper on a Dvd9.I used a tool called simple file joiner not that long ago,if you would like to check it out.I wouldn't worry about it though, because Dvd9 media is still pretty expensive.[Quote]
i used a similar tool, but when i finished my project of GT4,i opened it up and somehow a file in there came out as an NTSC file,i must of did something wrong,i couldn't find out what,so i gave up for awhile,i'll try again soon,i'm thinking of even trying the old method of boot fixing....adrenalin patcher,etc...just out of curiousty sake, you know, the method to get EA games to boot,i know from memory this doesn't fix the checks, but it might be worth seeing what the procedure results have to say.....d/l media is still expensive, but not that expensive, prices have dropped here in oz land, one or two coasters isn't too bad, just means i miss out on 1/2 dozen beers *L*

Why are you interested in cracking this game? It's such a great game it's worth the $50. And don't tell me your going to crack it just as a backup in case something happens, because that is never the case.

i was thinking of something. If toolboys patches get rid of the dvd checks, why cant we put the GT4.VOL on one DVDR and the other GT4L1.VOL on another one, it might work but you would have to do a lot of changing, but just a thought. And toolboy, you said that your patch does not work except DMS chips, does that include DMS3? And what should I do with the patches that I downloaded just delete them because their useless like you said that the dvd9 backup does not work.

I have a fridge right by my desk, a hole drilled through the bottom of my chair with a bucket under it and I haven't seen daylight in five months ;)

very unfair assumption,i backup all my games, music, dvd's because i have HAD IT happen, not just from my kids, but from friends and rellies, some people just don't know how to handle discs, and in my house, the originals are now locked away, and the b/ups are out, this deters the young'ns from thinking that there are other games about,so they don't go hunting for them

something of interest to me,might be for others i don't know,iv'e used the first step in patching(adrenalin) it tells me that it needs 2 patches..would i like to continue(answer...yes,answer back from programme...patched),now as soon as i get time later,i'm going to restart everything, because you need several programmes to complete...adrenalin patcher, eccregen and cdrwin, the last 2 could be a bit dodgy because i don't know if they are dual layer compatible

don't know if this has been said yet, but the new slimline PSTwo will play dual-layer backups of movie DVDs. So there has to be a way of playing dual-layer games.

the point here is not if the ps2 can play dual layered dvd movies, all ps2's can play dvd9 movies original or burned using a standard dvd burner. GT4 is burned the same way as DVD9 movies, DVD9 movies are burn in OTP, meaning that they start from the center of the disc to the outer for the first layer then on the second layer it continues from the outer to the center again. GT4 is PTP meaning it is parallel, the data on both layers start from the center to the outer. Now commercial DVD dual layer DVD burners can't burn in this way, so thats why everyone here are tyring to figure out how to get the game working using OTP mode which the DVD burners are capable. Now in order to get the game working we need to find the dvd checks that are on the game and get rid of them, by getting rid of these check you can make a backup using a dvd burner using otp mode. The DMS4 chip can bypass these checks so that means you can get your original disc and back it up to a DVD9 using any DVD burning software. I hope that is clear,

hey,has anyone tried using gear pro mastering 7 to burn the disk onto a dvd9? it has an option to burn in ptp,you can edit the layer break as well,i'm not saying that it will work straight off without a patch but if its possible to make a ptp disk then at least we can eliminate the otp/ ptp theories and its one less thing to sort out.

speccyfan the ptp issue are the dvd checks, when you put ur original gt4 disc in the ps2 it reads it and then it checks it to go to the next layer, if you backed it up using your dvd burner in otp mode it would search for the second layer file but would find it because the game has been copied in otp mode. Your saying gear master pro can record in PTP mode, if it can then we wont need to do anything else because the PTP issue is the dvd checks. Of course we have to do something about the people who havent got DVD9 burners.
I was just thinking, why dont we extract the Layer0 files and build an image with that then extract Layer1 and build another image with that, then burn the first image to the first layer and burn the second image to the second layer, that way it would burn in PTP mode because you are burning each of the layers seperately.

I think it's funny how people always come out with the "I'm a professional programmer" or the "I know a programmer" bit to try to sound more valid. What's being a programmer got shit to do with this? I'm a programmer, too, but it doesn't make my points any more valid than someone who actually knows how these games work.
Besides, being a programmer nowadays isn't all that hard. You take a few programming classes, a couple data structures/algorithm classes, a networking class, and maybe a software engineering class. Being a programmer can encompass as little as simply KNOWING a language, or set of languages, enough to write simple stuff for a software company.
I just wish I could smack all the people who try to fake saying that they're programmers to sound more valid.

Team toxic released their Toxic OS about a month ago or should I say nearly 2 months ago. Now they said that they were going to get out a patch for DVD+R DL but we haven?t heard from them since. I believe that they just scrapped this patch and are working on something else because they don?t care about people who haven?t got a DMS4 chip, those that have got a DMS4 chip installed in their PS2 are lucky, the people who haven?t got a DMS4 chip are unlucky because the Toxic OS was not made for any other mochip. What I think everyone needs to do now is get the latest Toxic OS and try and find out what they did to get the game to work so that we can make a patch for the DVD+R DL backup.
I want to know where I can get the latest Toxic OS from, there doesn?t seem to be any website for Team Toxic, could someone please give me a link on where I can download the latest Toxic OS.

If programming isn't that hard(coupla classes here, coupla classes there)
why are we still waiting for a successful backup?

not neccassarily...speccyfan may well be onto something...OTP/PTP
although i have stated i don't believe this is the issue, but if this IS the case and you can determine where to write on the second layer.
