Xbox internet with 2 nic cards

I have a network up and running with 2 nic cards, i can ftp and stream from my pc to xbox but i cant access the net or use live without plugging the xbox direct into my modem and switching the modem on and off..I have enabled ICS on the card connected to the net with no luck...If i buy a router can i still ftp and access the net with out swapping cables and stuff..Or is there a way of getting these nic cards to work.
I can run xlink as well through xbmc, but it wont let me veiw trailers, web radio etc.
