hey, wouldnt it make sense that if u make an exact copy of a disc, ... it would work like the original? Why wont it work if i make an exact copy of it? (using version 1 ps2 and dvd -r's_ Thanks

Right, huge machines in CD/DVD manufacturing plants physically press the grooves into a metal film on the DVD, then it's coated with a plastic and sent off. The grooves reflect light in two different ways, the reader then reads this, and intreprets it as data.
DVDRs work differently : There is a cover for you to write on with a sharpie, then a layer that contains an organic dye (usually purple) then another layer to cover it. When you burn a DVD, the burner will alter the dye to reflect light in a way that's similar to the way it would if it were pressed. And since the whole thing is optical (the DVDR is burned with a laser, and not physically printed) it makes for some inaccuracies and misalignments in the dye.
Beyond that, PS2 CD/DVDs have special areas which contain data that burners can't read or burn. These areas can only be duplicated by physically pressing them onto a disc, hence, it's protection against people like us.
That's why you need Swap Magic. It uses an original PS2 game (With the protection burned on) then they write their own program to the rest of the disc. They then take these discs, and use manufacturing plants (like the ones commercial companies such as Sony use) to physically press a whole load of these discs.
