DVD dual layer - concentric circles on the burn?

Just installed my new DVD dual-layer burner. Came with Nero OEM s/w. Tried to burn on a SINGLE LAYER disk. Seemed to work OK and the DVD played, but I noticed something odd...
The burned side of the DVD contains several concentric circles (that look 'unburned'). Almost looks like the tracks of an old record album (remover those things?)
Is this normal? I never saw this when I had a plain ol' single layer dvd burner.
