If you have the .iml file located where your image files are the star.000 + star.001 etc...You can use the program Apache 2 to open up the .iml file, and then make a .iso of it.I hope this helps you out,but try to see if you can get Apache 2 because it covers alot of stuff for ripping games.

if people are going to copy and paste the instructions that i posted a few weeks ago,(of which were not mine),thats fine,
but you could at least post all of them!!!!!
read through them, the instructions are based on the game starwars battlefront,(thus FILES CALLED STAR)
i know this method may work for others, but may be a little confusing for others if they do not realise they need to change the name of the file,or they may be looking for files they cant find

Yeah like hursty said all you have to do extract all the files from the first layer. Then rebuild it with cd/dvd rom generator. If you are wondering where the files are supposed to be located, just open up the original.iso you made of the game in Apache 2 or Isobuster.Any kind of image extraction program UltraIso,IsoBuster,Apache 2 etc...I think it isn't really the method though that is troubling some folks though hursty.I think it has to do with the tools they are getting or the procedure of making it an .iso file.By the way hursty how is the game man,I can't wait to play it myself.

Hi this is my first post, but I've read the site before. I have been backing up movies for a long time now, but I think theres a problem with making backups of god of war. I am using the swap method with a slim ps2. As well as the mentioned decrypter-isobuster-cdvdgen-combinebin method. The backup seems to play fine but at the point in the game where kratos has to climb the titans back, as soon as he finishes climbing and gets to save the game freezes. I tried playing the backup one more time to verify but the game simply froze a few feet from last time. then I played the original and it played fine, so i saved it.I then tried to play the backup from the save and again it froze. i dont think its a bad burn, but I could be wrong; I did check with a scandisk program and it said the disc was perfect. Sorry for the spoilers, but if anyone using this method has had/has not the same problems then I would like to know. also if anyone has any ideas as to how to solve the problem that'd be nice.

Hey L-Burna, or Jizma. What about Part2.pak??? Don't you think that this file is a necessary part of the game? It's the file in Layer 1. I rebuilt the files from Layer 0 fine and the game boots up fine. But I haven't played far enough to know whether or not it'll crash somewhere in the middle. I already tried to replace Part1.pak with Part2.pak hoping to create a Disc 2 or something. the resulting disc won't even start. Any ideas??

Jizma, mine works too, But i haven't gone through the whole game. Have you cleared the whole game yet? So Part2.pak is just a dummy file you think?

Oh and Jizma. So we're only going to have ONE disc for this right? no need to create a Disc 2? That is if you have already run through the whole game without any problem
thanks

Hey guys, my first post, been mostly lurking, and I'll add that I've learned a ton from just browsing!
Jizmak, I'm willing to bet you'll get stuck at the same point in the game that the rest are. It's bothering you, you know it. Scratch that itch, get to the same point in the game, and find out ;-D
I think Makkena is right. The layer1 (second layer) contains a file part2.pak and I believe that it's a neceessary component of the game, and if you simply backup and combine the files from layer0, you'll get stuck at this part: "where kratos has to climb the titans back, as soon as he finishes climbing and gets to save the game freezes".
Several people are getting stuck at the same place using the "Rip layer0, forget layer1" method.
A few questions for you guys that have already tried:
How large is the part2.pak file (located on layer1)? And is there other files on layer1, or is that the only one?
What someone could try, if they have not already done so, is just make a 1 byte file called part2.pak and include it along with the 3.97gb rip of the first layer. Might work, but I doubt it =( My guess is that there are some hidden dummy files, perhaps meshed in the first layer, and finding them is going to be tricky.
I think we will be seeing alot of these types of protection (don't forget Gran Turismo 4!) Way to go, Sony! I'm just hoping the DMS4 team is actually working on a toxic patch to allow DVD-Rdl backups to run.

When i put my original in my pc there is no pak2 file.
The original matches my copy at 3.96gb.
I believe the pak2file is a dummy or a new
protection.
Only time will tell.

yes. IML is the image, broken up into parts. So use the export iml option. then merge it together with cmd

So for those of you that have successfully done this method, have you gotten past the part that freezes for everybody around 4-4.5 hours in the game?
