Ive tried several ways to burn DVDs and I keep getting errors in the burning process. I recently installed this burner into a new PC. It worked fine in my old PC with DVD XCOPY but it has major problems with Nero. I'm using cheap blanks but they worked fine with XCOPY. Any help will be apreciated. Here is the log:

Hi snook924, First thing to do is edit your post and remove your Nero serial number. You don't want everyone using your number.
From reading your post I noticed that your LiteOn burner drive has the DMA setting off. Go into your device manager and select the IDE controllers. Under advanced setting are the DMA selections. Set both IDE controllers to DMA if available and then try again. That should help.

Quote: CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On

Try changing your configuration.
>Put Hard drive in IDE 0 set as master pluged into end of cable.
>Put DVDRW (LiteON) on the same cable in the middle jumper set as "Slave"
>Put CDR in IDE 1 set as master plugged into end of cable.
Now see if that works?

Do what Jerry746 said to do and also it looks like your burner does not like the Princo disks you tried to use.
"Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R9 Double Layer.) "
That might be the reason there. Try Verbatim or ask the Lite-on website what blank media that burner is certified to be able to use.

You can do all that, but the fact of the matter is none of your drives are set up right inside the computer to begin with, and WinXP is more than likely just going to keep reverting back to PIO mode anyway. So you need to install your drives properly before you do anything else... Or just keep messing with your DMA settings and pulling your hair out trying to figure out why they don't work properly. I already showed you what to do.. :-)

Where did you get that computer anyway? Did someone buil it for you?
Why in the hell would they put your HD on the secondary IDE channel? It must have been hard to load the operating system that way? Sorry just wondering I haven't seen that before well not from a brand new computer anyway I believe someone F'ed up LOL :-)

I switched the DVD and CDR ROMS so now the DVD is the master. My HD is not a slave. It's an SATA drive not IDE.Both my drives are set up as 'DMA if avalable" Anyway I'm still having problems. I only have these ghettho blank DVDs with me but they worked with DVD XCOPY....new log :

Oh!! My Bad that explains the hard drive, but it is woerd that Nero shows it as atapi port 1 ??
Anyway, what other software do you have installed? Do you happen to have any packet writing software installed such as Nero InCD or Roxio Direct CD? If so get rid of them completely. Then you can try to load an ASPI Layer.
The term 'ASPI' is an acronym that stands for: Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. All the following terms are synonymous: ASPI layer, ASPI drivers, ASPI interface. The term 'SCSI' [scuzzy] is an acronym that stands for Small Computer Systems Interface.
An ASPI layer consists of four files that 'lie between' various programs [software] and certain devices, such as CD/DVD-ROM drives and CD/DVD burners/writers [hardware]. Software programs such as CD digital audio extractors [commonly known as 'Rippers'] and CD-writing utilities such as CDRWin use/require ASPI drivers to 'communicate with' SCSI devices.
Many people don't realize however, that the files contained in an ASPI layer are also used in systems that *don't* contain a SCSI adapter, or SCSI devices .. for things such as ripping CD audio and burning CD/DVDs.

It worked!!! I had Roxio, DVD2COPY and DVD43( wasn't running) encryptor installed. I unistalled them all and installed the ASPI driver and it worked!!
The only glich i see is that even when I take off enough features to make it fit on a 4.7gig DVD, it still says that it wouldnt fit. I had to uncheck another 11megs worth of features and then it worked.
Hey guys I really appreciate the help!!
Thank You !!

I'm glad to see you got it working :-)
Now it sounds like you may need some help on how to exactly back up your DVD's? So check out my website (link in signature) there are several guides there that you will probably find very usefull. All are tested and proven to work well. :-)
