What is an NRG file

After I downloaded the Action Replay Max it had a NRG file. Is there some way to extract it, or can I just use DVD decrepter to write it in a DVD and I can Play it onto my already modded Ps2?

use Nero to burn that file, and u can play it on ur modded ps2
