DVD size burn wear out PS2 laser??

I have a 400MB or so DVD burn for the PS2, i was curious if making the laser read only in the center of the DVD will age the laser much faster?

If the media you burnt it on is good quality then there shouldn't be a problem. If it's crappy media then the laser will struggle to read the disc and burn it out quicker. Theoretically(sp?) using only a small amount of data on a disc will make it last longer because the laser won't have to move as much.
