Video but no Audio?

after downloading a movie and burning to dvd+r i was
able to successfully play it on the computer and had both video and audio.
When I take the DVD to my stand alone DVD player, I get video, but no audio.
Anyone run into this befiore?
If I put the DVD+r back in the computer it plays fine.

I had the exactly same issue with shows I have downloaded.
Its something to do with AC3 filters and I have never figured out how to fix it.
however, my workaround is to
1. use audioconverter to extract the audio to a .wav file
2. use TMPGEnc to encode a .mpg input video <the .AVI file> input audio <the .wav file>
3. burn the mpg with Nero
I burn vcd's not dvd's but the concept is the same.

Hi, If you Install this Filter then TMPGEnc will be able to read the Dolby AC3 audio in your AVI files...

There is also a Possibility that the audio could be VBR mp3 which TMPGEnc can also not handle so if the audio is in the VBR Mp3 format you will have to decompress the audio in the AVI before TMPGEnc will be able to read it properly...
If you PM me with your E-Mail address I can send you a Simple Tool for Decompressing the audio in your AVI files so TMPGEnc can read them....

Obviously I did not explain my problem correctly.
What I have is a DVD that was created from files downloaded from the net. I used CloneDVD to create the DVD.
On the DVD are 2 folders - Audio_TS and Video_TS.
These are standard folders on most DVD's.
When I play the DVD on my computer using WinDVD 6, the DVD plays flawlessly. Both audio and video.
If however, I use PowerDVD 6, the video plays flawlessly, but ther is no Audio.
If I put the DVD in my stand alone DVD player (connected to TV), I get video, NO AUDIO.
The only thing that plays the DVD correctly is WinDVD 6.
Any suggestions?

Well what audio Format and and sample Rate did you use to create your DVD...
Because if you used Mpeg-1 Layer 2 audio on a NTSC DVD then the Problem could be your DVD Player because the NTSC DVD Standard Does not support Mpeg-1 layer 2 audio unless it is a secondary Audio Track with Dolby AC3 being the Main Audio Track...Some Older DVD Players might not be able to read a NTSC DVD"s audio if you used this Audio format as the Main Audio Track....
another thing you should Make sure of is that your Audio is 48000hz because lower sample Rates are not DVD Compliant....

Thanks for the info, but I used whatever CloneDVD uses to butn the VIDEO_TS folder to DVD.
Is there a program that will analye the DVD and tell me the specifics of how the DVD was recorded?

Might be a stupid question, but the audio setup on your dvd player is correct is it. The reason I say this is because I had the exact same problem. I went into the audio menu and adjusted a few settings and all works fine now

Again, the software PowerDVD 6 will not play the audio either.
The problem has nothing to do with settings on my sert top box - it plays all other DVD's just fine.

I use PowerDVD6 Deluxe evaluation and have exactly the same problem, video is fine, but no audio.
If I use WinDVD all is ok, the DVD runs fine in my DVD Player.
There I have to choose the correct audio language.
I have tried all available audio options to no avail.

If I use IFOEdit and change Video_Ts.IFO to NTSC wherever PAL
appears, Powerdvd 6 then plays the audio.

why NTSC?
my system here is PAL.
btw, I don't find any option to choose the video format anywhere.

You can't choose the video format in Powerdvd. You can however modify
it in IFOEdit.
I have gotten 3 videos to work this way.
My Stand-alone dvd player can play either NTSC or PAL.
Software DVD players (windvd - powerdvd) are capable of playing either.
In your case, if you use PAL, I would put the video_ts folder out on your hard drive and then use IFOEdit to change the format to either
PAL or NTSC and then use Powerdvd to play it from the hard drive to see if it works.

finally I tried IFOEdit and changed PAL to NTSC, but it did not help.
The DVD is muted with PowerDVD, but it works with WinDVD.
Seems to be a problem with PowerDVD maybe it has to to with my hardware, no idea.

I stiil have one that will not play audio on my set top box

did you check if the selected audio language is chosen in your DVD player? If I strip the second language and forget to choose the left one this happens to me also.

ok, last update.
I finally got the movie to play video and audio on my set top box.
My set top box was not the problem, my pc was not the problem,
but the movie itself was screwed up.
Here is how I fixed it;
First, I used a proggy called Imtoo dvd Ripper V2.0 to rip the dvd
(audio and video) to my hard drive as MPEG.
Then, I used Ulead Movie Factory to create a new DVD from the MPEG file.
Movie now plays flawlessly on computer and set top box.
