My nero freezes up on me! I can read the movie to my HD no problem. but when my burner startes to burn the movie back from my HD to disc. Nero freezes at 1% burn complete. The DVD burnner just sits there and spools up and down.I have to shut down my computer to get the disc out. This ruins the disc. Nero used to work fine It just started to do this. Any suggestions???

Hey dbm83,
This might be the type of media that you are using.
Do you know what type?
What version of Nero are you running?
Have you tried Registry Mechanic to see if everything is ok with your OS?
Any firmware updates?
My guess is the media you are using. I actually had the SAME exact issue last night. I use Memorex dvd-r media. Depending on what you answer is, I would suggest changing the media, possibly Taiyo Yuden, which is actually considered the best here on aD (AfterDawn).
Let me know what your answers are!
Hope this helps!
;)

Thanks VenomX05 for replying. The version of Nero I am using is Nero Express ver. 5.5.10.32. And ya the discs I have been using are Memorex 8x. I resently up graded my system. I'm not sure if it's part of the problem. I now use a "Lite On" DVD rom which writes the movie to a 10,000 RPM western digital HD And then I use a Plextor PX-716A to burn it. The first few times I tried my new hardware it worked but then it just stopped. Now here's where I sound nieve! What is registy mechanic? Firware updates for my burner?

hi
definatly get the new firmware for your drive!
and get the latest Nero v6.6.0.8a or try uninstalling the old version you got and re-install...
Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Rotary definately has the right answer about the firmware.
Um, Registry Mechanic, is a program that finds and fixes problems associated with your OS.
You can pick it up and PCWORLD.COM. It is a great program, but you can also use Registry Cleaner, which does the same thing.
Yeah, I would also reccommend that you get the newest version of Nero, which is Ultra, I do believe. But all this should solve your problem!

TOLD YA!!!! I was never biased about that one, jim!
You know that!
Anyways, thanks for the compliment. I know that the Memorex isn't for everyone, and bad enough they are made in several different places, let alone, it is like playing russian roulette to get a good set.

Ok one more quick question. What is your average burn time for a movie? I use DVDXcopy & it takes a good 35 to 40 min to read it, & about 15 min to write it. Is this the norm?
Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz
512 DDR2 Memory
Plextor PX-716A burner
Lite On DVD ROM
37 gig 10,000 RPM WD HDD
200 gig 7200 RPM WD HDD
Asus P5AD2 motherboard 925X chip set
AX 300se/t 128mb vid card
Windows XP

Um...there isn't a real average burn time per se. There are some who can burn like in 30min, and then there are others, like myself, who have a slow transfer rate, and a burn takes about an hour or more. It all depends on your setup really.

That is pretty close-approximately 15 mins to burn about 4360 mbs. Your pc specs will control your encoding times. DVD Shrink does have some extra enhancements for quality, and those times really slow down.

My X-copy will read 7.5gig in 25mins & burn in 12-15mins. Depends how my PC is feeling I guess. I am very happy with my overall times. I don't think you will get much faster burn times than 12-15mins, (faster media would help, but most here recommend burning at 4x), but you can improve your read times by using a ROM instead.
My Plextor can half the read times of my Sony dru510a. My Sony can also match my Pioneers for burning.
The Sony is in my second PC, a "just in case" back up plan!

Better believe! I told you I was going to say if I ever got any bad media! LMAO!!! But it was only 3 disks, so the ratio to good and bad, is still good!

If this keeps up, your damn right I am going to change media!!!
