i am going out to buy a new burner to make my dvd back ups for ps2. I had a pioneer A03 that worked awesome, but they dont make them anymore.

what burner should i buy? does the burner brand/options matter at all?

i dont suggest the NEC 2500A because i have one. It is a very good burner but not very good a reading scratch disk. There are lot of good burner out there. Find one that fit ur budget and google the model with "review" or "rating" to get some site that review the drive already and check out what they say about it. If it look good then buy it. If u got money buy plextor.

i currently use both:
Pioneer A07 (8x)
LG 8x (forget the model number)
and they both work great...

i would suggest getting a burner from either these brand

I personally think Pioneer A07 or 08 is the better one, should try to look out for those. pioneer A09 is good as well and should work well for burning ps2 games but from what i heard they can't burn xbox games correctly but that shouldn't be too bad if you don't own a xbox.
