well, the firmware that i have for my nec 3520 is NOT official firmware, it's just a beta region free patch that will nullify your warranty` :) i like to live on the wild side and experiment with all my drives and firmware, but i STRONGLY suggest you NOT update unless you are comfortable knowing that your warranty on your drive will no longer be valid. i honestly haven't noticed ANY difference at all other than the region free stuff, but i know that nec doesn't have any OFFICIAL firmware released for this particular drive. here is where i got my UNofficial firmware update:

hope you like it, check it out, but DON'T update unless you are VERY comfortable knowing your warranty will be null and void.

@kivory: k, I was just checking....all the dvds play fine except for SAW (i've made backups of other dvds such as from dusk till dawn, dude wheres my car, etc.) :D
