I've tried two different games (Fight night round 2, and tekken 5) and I cannot get them to boot. I burned them at 1x with dvd decrypter and alcohol 120%. I've wasted at least 5 dvds on each. I'm tired of wasting dvds burning different ways. I get the message with swap magic 3.6 that it is not a valid ps2 disc after I used swap magic and slide tool.I heard something about patching or something you have to do or maybe some games need another program or something.I'm out of ideas and I just want to play my games.BTW I'm using dvd-r.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This may be a silly question but i was stupid enough to try and boot dvds up using swap magic cd version. I got the cd out and put it in my ps2 without even checking if it was the dvd or cd version.
So are you deffentely using dvd version not cd.

Using DVD Decrypter

1. Start DVD Decrypter
2. Select Mode, go down to ISO Read
3. Select your Reader & Destination
4. ?Decrypt? the ISO Image to the Hard Drive
5. Wait for the ISO Image to be made
6. Select Mode, go down to ISO Write
7. Select the ISO Image file you made, click ?Open?
8. Select your Burner, Write speed & Burn the ISO

I done all of that except get more expensive media. I got some AVB dvd-r 8x 50 pack that wasn't very expensive at all.I just don't see that could be the whole problem of this situation.

i had the same problem in the begining try to rip the iso with decrypter and then burn with Nero image recorder at the lowest burn speed possible , about the dvd-r, expensive disks dont always work a mate of mine burns with budget dvd-r and has never had any problems, and i use ritek ridisk 1-4 speed no problems here either £10 for 50 at local market

I use budget dvd-r and burn at 1 - 2x and burn with DVD Decrypter. Nothing I do seems to be able to get the games to work.

I was having problems with Tekken5 locking up using Prodisc and burning at 2X, which isn't exactly cheap media. The ps2 is just picky you have to find media it likes and stick with it.

I went thru about 5 burns and all had the same problems. I was all out of patience trying different things and was going to burn Tekken5 yet again but didn't want to wait for the 2x burn so I decided to burn at 8x (my drives max speed, and the Prodisc rated max speed also) and to my suprise it works wonderfully.

So my point here is since you tried everything else, try burning at 8X and see what happeneds... its cheap media anyhow.

I just got ahold of some Taiyo Yuden's very cheap from supermediastore and I've never had a single problem with them yet.

Oh ya, and I ALWAYS burn at 8x (i'm impatient) and never have any problems on my slim line ps2.

Well then I'd assume the ps2 doesn't like the media.

In my experience so far:
Prodisc 8x DVD-R burned at 2x = skipping FMV and freezeups in gameply
Prodisc 8x DVD-R burned at 8x = no problems
Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R burned at 2x = no problems
Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R burned at 8x = no problems

Tekken5 working with no problems on any menu selection with no patch
Fight Night Round 2 no problems without patch

I really don't have the money to go out and buy several different types of media to see which works best. I have a brand called avb right now and it's shit.

I thought dvd+ wouldn't work on dvd+. I'm going to go get some verbatim dvd-r 8x today.Verbatim is the only brand I've heard every person I've asked say is perfect for ps2 burns.I'll let you know what the results hold.

The only discs that have ever worked in my ps2 were ridata dvd+r 4x and taiyo yuden discs, but the ridata seem to work best, burnt at lowest possible speed, which for me is 2.4x. The media seems to make all the difference, don't necessarily have to get the most expensive, just the one that works, which usually won't be the super cheap stuff.

Ok I bought some verbatim dvd-r 8x and to my surprise I put it in and it booted up without swap magic. I didn't think I had my ps2 modded but to my surprise it booted up, however it freezes up. I burned with DVD Decrypter on 1x but it said 2.1x in the butning process. How do I get it to stop freezing up and to load solid?

well if u don't use the swapmagic discs, and u don't have a modchip, then its not going to work. So if it loads but then freezes, w/out the swapmagic discs, then I would say to use the discs.
