Hello,
Just bought a Toshiba DVD burner (Toshiba SD-R5372 - DVD Burner DVD±R/RW 16/4/12/4x DL 5x CD-RW 48/24/48x IDE - Buffer 2 Mo - BurnProof - Version bulk) and I have several video files in several formats (AVI,MWV,MPEG,MPG)
I just want to burn them to watch on my TV.

I have tried with 'Pinnacle' but it takes forever to burn and then won't play in my DVD player. (It plays on my pc but without audio)

ThenI was advised to try another encoding software (Win AVI, then Dvx to Dvd, same result, unwatchable on TV...no audio on PC (audio file empty)

What the best format for domestic DVD players?

Can anyone advise me what to do in the simplest way possible...!

Thanks

What media are you using [Discs'], and how fast are you burning it.

If you're burning a AUDIO_TS file it's supposed to be empty.

What's your main burning program are you using, Nero, Pinnacle, Roxio, etc?

Much more info is required PC 'specs' how much RAM, HD size, what's your burning experience? It's all guesswork with knowing some of these facts'.

I tried with Pinnacle Suite (enclosed with the burner)and I try to burn on DVD RW at 4X but I've also tried converting files with TMPGEnc (as said in one of the Afterdawn guides on this site)and I am about to try and burn them with Nero....
What is my burning experience? Nil!

Well firstly you're very short of RAM I don't know if even switching off
all the other applications on your PC whether 128mbs is enough.

Others will advise you further, but my advice is increase it as much as you can.

for other burning guides see http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/tutorial007.html

and here http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html

There's a lot more to learn so take your time, and welcome to AD

Hi,
Thanks for your reply and your link, I've read it carefully. The thing is that Pinnacle doesn't 'see' converted files. It took ages for it to encode an AVI file but it seems to 'like' mpg ones. I'm currently trying to convert and burn a mpg file and it seems quite quick. If it works (I'll keep you posted), what I would need is a free converter to encode all my files to mpg and then burn them on Pinnacle.
Note: My RAM is 256 and not 128.

Well...It was too good to be true: the DVd has been burnt in 3 hours( a miracle) but in the end it has no sound (when played on the PC) and can't be played on TV! Plus when the DVD was ejected, a blue screen appeared saying BAD_POOL_HEADER and I had to reboot the computer..
Any ideas?
