Is it hard to burn Avi and Mpeg files to Dvd+r/-r to be played on a dvd player??? Does nero provide easy access in doing this??? What programs or tools do I need to properly burn avi and mpeg files to a single dvd???
1) Is it hard to burn Avi and Mpeg files to Dvd+r/-r to be played on a dvd player If you try to make a VCD (a movie on 2 CD-R, since a CD-R=80'), extremely esay, if you try to make a SVCD (again: a <110' movie on 2 CD-R. Since the encoding is VBR, you 'enlarge' half the movie, to fill one CD-R and, if half movie is <55', the quality is > VCD's), a is little more difficult, if you try to make a DVD, yes.
Careful, if the input movie is a MPG it will be PAL and NTSC. Using VCDGear (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vcdgearburnatonce.cfm) you can detect which type of mpeg it is, and if it is different from yours, you need to re-encode the movie . WE (but it's a littkle slow) we prefer using TMPGenc also because there's much more stuff for it and there are many more guides on it: you can read http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/tmpgenc_basic_guide.cfm , http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/tmpgenc_xpress_basic_guide.cfm , but there are other encoders availeble (Cucusoft, Xilisoft). TRy them and choose yours.

There is also a 'AVI --> DVD' guide (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm), but I don't suggest it. Since garbage IN = garbage OUT it's useless to convert a 600-900 MB AVI movie into a 4.5 GB DVD movie. It's better to put multiple (S)VCD movies into one DVD-R encoding them , first, then using an authoring application that allows you to put (S)VCD movies on a DVD (You can fit many movies in this way).

NEVER use it to encode a movie. You can use it only for authoring a (S)VCD and, since when you make a DVD with a VCD movie it tries to encode it to DVD, it's also a bad DVD authoring application.
But, in general, unless the AVI is 2-3 GB in size, avoid making a single DVD movie with it. Make a SVCD, at the max, maybe split into 3 CD-Rs, or put it (toghether with other SVCD movies...) into a DVD-R
