Try to update your burner's firmware. Look up your burner's manufacturer web site for their suggestions for media. Also, keep in mind not all burners can use every type of media even with updated firmware.

Hello Helfire,

http://www.videohelp.com is a great place to lookup media by media id etc...

Burning speed makes a big difference specially when burning VideoDVDs.

What speed are you burning them at ?
What drive are you burning them with ?
Have the latest firmware on there ?

I've hear good about Ritek (Ridata).
I use Ridata RitekG04 (4x) DVD-R media at home with great succes but I burn them at 2x :)

Thanx man will check out that site now...

Im burning them at x8 speed...does the speed they are recorded at effect their playback?

I burn them using my LiteOn external drive...and TRY play them on my internal Pioneer drive (on my laptop), which gets screwed up when i try playing them on it.

As far as i know i have the updated firmware...put i'll check again.

Lets say i burn a disc at x8 will it PLAY in a drive that burns at x2?
In other words if the disc is burnt at x8 speed does that mean it can only play in a drive thats x8 speed??

Thanx for all your help Couger...

Hi there,

Yes, burning speed does matter.

Lots of people burning at 8x and above will have freeze and skip issues on DVD playback.

I burn at 2x and all my DVDs play everywhere.
Even at 4x, I have a cheap Toshiba player and he's really picky, and burning at 4x sometimes will gimme some freeze issues.

I use DVDShrink and set target to 4300 instead of 4464 so I don't burn to close to the edge !
