There isnt a DVD and CD forum so I thought this would be the best place.

What video files can I burn to a CD-R that will work in a DVD player? eg: AVI, MPG.

What video files can I burn to a DVD-R or CD-R that will work on a DVD player with Divx (other words, what files does Divx read)

CD= vcd(Mpeg1)and svcd(Mpeg2-480X480res)

DVD= DVD(Mpeg2-720X480res).

Depends on the settop player what will play on what.
My Apex model 2500 plays most everything I don't think it will play divx though. Someone mention on here a phillips model DVP642
would play divx.

Good Luck

So whats the difference between VCD and SVCD. Is the quality better with SVCD or something?

Or can you just make it full screen.

VCD is lesser quality than Super Video CD.

You can just fit 40 minutes to a SVCD and a little more than 1 hour to a VCD. SVCDs have a higher bitrate (better quality) and allow you to have a simple menu (you enter #s on the remote keypad). I don't think VCDs have this feature.

You can have simple menus on VCD's - I've done it with Roxio
You can have multiple menu's, backgrounds and audio within the menu's
