Burning Multiple movies on DVD

I want to burn a couple movies on dvd, but am not sure what to convert them to first. Do I convert them to svcd, dvd, mini dvd....

convert to dvd files and then use Nero and you can combine the movies and make a menu

I use Nero to burn and Winavi to convert.
