What is the brand name and speed of these blank discs?

These should be on. Go through device manager, ide controllers/uninstall-1 at a time/and reboot. If you have xp,it will automatically hook them back up to dma or udma mode.

Like I posted in your opening post, Your your raid hard drives are not set to DMA or UDMA. They are in PIO mode. They cannot be off. I don't know if their is any difference between uninstalling raid than regular IDE controllers like I have. Here's a guide to help you out: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DMA.html

Reduce that backup target in dvd shrink: Open up dvd shrink/Edit/Preferences/click on dvd-5/scroll till custom/enter 4300 mbs/OK. Trying to put too much data on low quality media can screw us up. Uneven dye on the outer edge is the culprit. This keeps from burning the outer edge.

Once you got your IDE's set to DMA or UDMA,target set at 4300 mbs, burn at 4x. Higher quality media can be burned successfully faster than it's listed speed. The lower quality crap has to be burned slower than max speed.

I don't know about your x-copy express burn report. I did notice it said Catwoman. That was an easy for me using DVD Shrink and Nero.

Hey Guys, Thanx for all the help, I did turn the DMA on the hard drives and lowered the burn speed and size. The burn worked fine although did not play good on any dvd player, even on the computer. Any ideas? Do you know anything about TDK printable media?

Thank you

OK, your dma's are turned on and the problem occurs on both pc playback and stand alone playback.

I am unsure about TDK printables. That would be the next thing to change. It could be your sony dvdrw doesn't like that specific mfg code.
I use verbatim data life plus +8x ink-jet printables-Mfg code MCC-003. These are full hub printables and work very well in both my benq 1620's. Excellent playback too on my stand alones.
I still keep my backup target at 4360 mbs and burn at 4x and 2.4x with no background programs running.

Can you try some +rw's and see how they perform in both your sony drive and some stand alone players?

I will try some + RW's, what is the best way to check if something is wrong with the burner, because this problem just started recently, I have been using the burner for months before with no problems. I just ordered Ritek dvd+r printables, how are they? They are 4x not 8x- should not make a dif. to me right?

For printables,I keep the burn at 4x,and if I leave my machine to burn when I leave-auto burn-I use 2.4x and let it shut off automatically.

Ritek's are very good media, here's some mfg codes:
Ritek DVD+R 4x Printable (RICOHJPN R01)
Ritek DVD+R 4x Printable (RITEK R02)
Ritek DVD+R 8x (RITEK-R03-001)
Ritek DVD+R 8x Datasafe Printable (RITEK R03)

I have just began using printable media so I don't know which ones are the best. I've had great luck with MCC-003 regular media,so that is why I got the MCC-003 Printables. I hope those ritek's solve your issue. Let me know when you get them and see how well they are. Later

Saugmon, I am almost confident that the problems lies in my Sata drive. What do you think? Do you know much about Sata drives. Can i hook up a Sata drive to the Primary Sata and a IDE drive to the primary IDE. How can i check if it is the Drive? The DMA is turned to "on when available", although after i try to burn, the error message reads that the DMA is off. I dont know what to try anymore.

Never heard of that disc ID before, and neither has your burner. That is what "Media Specifics" is telling you. See all of them are 00's?

The solution to that problem is to upgrade your firmware but, you have the latest firmware for that drive. It just simply boils down to your using cheap disc's.

ME 153 disc's are sometimes branded Vision but may also be a generic No-Name brand or maybe other brands.

Burning results may be mixed.
Bad in your case.

Focus or tracking error
This usually indicates poor quality media, or media that is not suited for your burner and firmware.

Get some better quality media that your drive will recognize and have a better media specific burning strategy

Well i ordered the new media yesterday so we will see, although it is wierd that it used to work fine before and after a cought a virus, reformatted then everything went down hill. And why does my DMA read as it is off on the Sata drive in the error message?

Thanx guys

Also, these disc "

External USB drive?

If so go to www.intel.com and download the chipset intallation utility ONLY if you have an Intel chipset on board.

Most importantly STOP the Nero InCD service if it is running from Administrative Tools/Serives.

Use DVDFab Platinum with DVDIdle Pro and no more problems PERIOD.

Actually what has happened to you is the fact that External drives as well as internal ones depend 100% on the software and NO, Nero is not there quite yet considering all the updates since the first of the year. I have 100% luck with DVDFab and you should try it.

Tell Me what you think??

I have been having problems with my SATA drive, My system settings show DMA as on when available although you can see in the error message that it is off- although it fails when burning not encoding. I ordered new media- probably wond be here untill next week. The part that kills me the most, is that the media that i have now, used to work fine until i reformatted my hard drives.

EliaZInn,
I have been following this one so here is my 2 cents. Your computer as you have stated starts in DMA but by the time it gets to the burn is in PIO. This is a long shot but d/l a registry cleaner and clean out your registry of any conflicts that might be there. Windows because of conflicts on your system downgrades the DMA from DMA2 to DMA1 and then to PIO4 and all the way down to PIO1. You need to figure out where the conflicts are and that is why I suggested the registry cleaner. After that check all cables and make sure there are no DLA packets on your computer

By the way trying buying Verbatim as the blank media you are using is a poor choice

Hey Car, thanx for your input man.

I just bought new media it should arrive any day now. I also used a reg cleaner did not help. I have found some posts on editing my registry to make sure that my drive stays in DMA,( i have not tried yet).
