Hey all, I know it's an old movie, but my GF wants it. I ripped the movie dances with wolves with DVD Decrytor, an opened up shrink, but it tells me that there is not enough room? Any idea why this is? I believe at one point in time, I was able to use shrink to re-encode a DL movie and burn it to a DVD5

Any ideas? Thanks

Did you re-author the disc only keeping movie and one audio stream?

No, I'm trying to backup the full disk. I'm using the latest version of shrink.

I've been able to backup the new resident evil which was a DL DVD. I don't understand it

What is the compression setting set at when you try?

The part I am speaking of is the compression setting "before" you hit the back up button. It just above the area where it shows all the differant audio pieces.

Target size exceeded

The current DVD size is too big!
If you continue, you may not beable to burn the resulting files

Please ensure that the video is set to'Automatic' compression, or try disabling some audio streams

I don't undersyand how shrink will work and backup DL DVD but won't do it with this movie which is a older single layer?!

Sometimes, even though it set to "Automatic", it will still produce a file that is too big to burn on a single layer disc. If that is the case, try removing some the of the audio streams, or making the "Extras" a "Still Image" etc. There really is a hundred different ways of doing this.

You could also just "Re-author" the DVD, it will fit for sure then! - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46607

Even though it is a older movie. It is still possibly a dual layer DVD. Dual layer DVD's are the same size, doesn't matter if they were made 5 years ago, or yesterday. If this was a single layer DVD, you defiantly would NOT be having this problem!

If indeed it is a single layer DVD, simply do a ISO Read and a ISO Write in DVD Decrypter to produce a identical copy of it. - http://forum.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?showtopic=2990

Shrink just has it's limits. What i would do if i were you is one of 2 things. A: resign myself to only having the main movie and no extras.
Or B: Edit out what i don't need with Shrink, output the "too big" file, and then encode that with DVD Rebuilder. Actually i would do the latter.

I wonder if it is because the movie is 181 minutes long?!

If I do a ISO write, is there a way to change the book type to "DVD-ROM" as there is in shrink?

Download DVDFab Platinum and DVDIdle Pro and do the movie with DVDFab Express (one disc at a time). I did this with the same movie since it is a two disc feature and all worked fine. As an aside I kept only the main movie.

I tried putting this movie on one disc (movie only) and the compression was so high (even useing more advanced software than shrink) that it still came out a little blurry and grainy. I ended up useing 2 discs, perfect picture.

DVD Shrink will not offer you to put it over 2 disc, that is something you have to do with other video editing programs.
