I see a lot of posts for AVI Files burning to DVD and MPEG Files burning to DVD. After you create a movie and save it as an AVI file or an MPEG file and before using "divx to dvd" is there a better file to use, AVI vs. MPEG to burn onto a DVD disk? Is one format better than the other and recommended? Thanks!

You could burn a .AVI to a DVD but it would not play in anything but your computer. DVD-Video files consist of MPEG-2 files.

DVDs must be formatted and have all the required files and a correct file structure to be recognized as a DVD by a player. There is a specification book that lays all this out.

This is done so that all DVDs will play in all DVD players and that your DVD will play in your computer as well. And for the most part they do.
