Is one burner better than another when it comes to PS2 backups? I have a cheapo I/O Magic IDE1008, that seems to be getting so-so (has been making a lot of coasters lately). What burner do you recommend I replace it with?

Thanks.

i have a pioneer 108,fantastic,
the newer 109 just allows for newer firmware upgrade to allow faster burn speeds, and i have heard a few people having problems with this drive, but also a few people praising it,so who knows,???????
i was going to get a 109 to run alongside my 108,as my dvd rom drive is about shot it,but i am holding back on that one for now

I see that both of these drives are dual layer. Any non-dual layer burners that are good? I don't see myself using dual layer, the media is still too expensive for me.

How are lite-on drives? I know they used to make quality cd burners that were pretty inexpensive.

most burners are dual layer as standard,as this will become the norm,(using dual layers),once the price comes down(for copying movies anyways)
just get a dual layer burner,
go for the pioneer, they are cheap
around £45 uk puonds,,,,,,not sur about usa price, but i guess they will be about $60/70

u just cant go wrong

I got Freecom External Classic DVD+/-RW Double Layer from PC World. Works good and supports up to 16x speed which you dont really need but I wanted an external one because its easy to fit.

Watch out for prices though, mine was £70 because I ordered online, in store was £90 and I also saw it at £130 :)

pioneer 108 or 109 are both good burners, for top of the range (and price you could get a plextor) but if you only want something to backup ps2 games then the pioneer is ideal

Most pioneer drives do the job. Like the others i advise the 108. I dont advise sony as i have had many problems with them and is a waste of time.

Alright, so the Pioneer 109 is looking to be the way to go. I'm getting some taiyo yuden(sp?) media in the mail this week. If these don't fix my coaster problems, I'll definitely be picking up a 109 soon. Thanks fo the input everyone.

I use a Sony DRU-720A (It's DL), no problems whatsoever, it's great. Bought it at Compusa for $99 USD, after a $30 USD rebate.

PS2 v7 with flip top ? PSTwo Slim with flip top ? SM 3.3 ? Sony DRU-720A ? Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R ? A seven year old and a 3 year old who thinks that PS2 disks are skateboards
