Hi Lloydbus here.
OK,i have been to the search on this forum, and to google none of it helps me.
I am new at this thing, but i would like to softmod my x-box.
I need to know where to get the software or i need to download it/what is it for/how do i use it.
What do i need to have, I have=
X-BOX[i got it last year/and i have xbox live will it kill my xbox live]
COMPUTER[WINDOS XP]
That all,,,,
Do i need more, i will buy it if i need more or if the softmod is not free.e-mail me if you need to.
someone help me plzzzzzzzzz.

You need:
router, hub, or crossover cable
SmartFTP (most people use FlashFXP)
Action Replay
Action Replay 8MB Memory Card (comes with the action replay)
Mech Assault, 007: Agent Under Fire, or Splinter Cell (not plantinum)
gamesave exploit for any of the games above(download softmod installer deluxe)
Once you have gotten those things, change your IP address to 192.168.0.1. Install Action Replay. Get the gamesave exploit from softmod installer deluxe and then drag the .zip file into the action replay PC Database. Drag it then into the memory card. Wait til its done then put it in the xbox controller. Leave the tray open and go to memory. Go to the memory card, go to the individual gamesave (not the game) and click copy. Go play the game. Load up the gamesave that says Run Linux (i think). Then backup your C drive and click install softmod. Then install either unleashx or evox (choose evox, its cooler). Now to get into the dashboard, you need to boot a game (chooose one, doesn't matter) and when the game is successfully loaded (shows like the menu for first player, multiplayer, options whatever), then open the tray and leave it open. The dashboard should come up. There you go! For ftping into your xbox:
1. for the IP, put in: 192.168.0.2.
2. For the username and password: xbox
3. Done!

i will get what i need and then i wll try it, but do i put the IP on my xbox or pc.
And will this kill my xbox live.

you could play copies, make copies, install appz= XBMC = Xbox Media Center, It plays movies, AVI, mpeg, you could install a new harddrive, you could save your games in the new HDD. etc.
So many games, so little time.

If you mod your xbox you cannot play on xbox live but there are other alternatives

You should make a backup of the mod if you want to go on Live. Then remove the softmod and go and play. BTW, you need to change the IP of your computer to 192.168.0.1 and i suggest you get a linksys router which is what I have and its very good.

Ok, joschez you were saying that there were alternatives to x-box-live if I softemod my x-box,,,,,,,,, what are you saying.

When you use the gamesave exploit, it'll say backup C drive. Click that. Also, when you start out the xbox with the tray open (when it's softmodded), then click backup mod. SmartFTP is a program for FTPing and can be used to FTP into your xbox.

u can dl both of the programs free online, and they work pretty well, but not as smooth or with the amount of people as xbox live."

A program comes with softmod installer deluxe called DVD2XBOX which you can rip games to your xbox harddrive. All you have to do is get the game and burn it to your xbox using the program. I don't know where the games are to download off the net and I suggest you upgrade your harddrive (maxtor is good) so you can store more games cause you can only store like one game on your harddrive and halo 2 is too big.

My router won't accept IPs in the 192.168.0.x range. It has to be 192.168.1.x. Can I still get this to work?
