I am having major problems trying to burn "Summer of Sam" DVD.
I decrypt with DVD DECRYPTER & Use DVD SHRINK to compress the files onto a DVD-R DISK ( Ritek 8x ) I have a Samsung TS-H552U Dual Layer DVD Burner. My pc is a AMD 3200, 1 GIG DDR,GIGABYTE MB,RADEON 9600 PRO, MAXTOR 120 GIG HD. Software used is NERO 6 ULTRA. WIN XP HOME.
The movie encodes with DVD DECRYPTER but when I go to use DVD SHRINK it stops the burn with this error message,

I don't think it likes the media. What kind of media are you using? If you are unsure of disc manufacturer you can use a program called DVD Identifier to find out.

Try disabling or uninstalling InCD - it is a packet writing software that interfere with DVD burning

No worries champ. Just keeping things tidy is all :)

You're getting a Key Medium Error which means the burner isn't happy with the media for some reason. A firmware update may resolve that issue. The log you posted lists your drives current firmware as US03 which is three versions behind the current US06 version. Here's a link to get the newest firmware:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=28

Firmware flashing is generally straight forward and relatively easy but you need to pay attention and follow the steps carefully or you can kill your drive :)

I also am having the same issue, even after I have upgraded to the latest firmware. I've done a little bit of research and it could be due to my disks? I was using TDK 8x DVD-R. I'm going to purchase some Fuji disks which I have found as people saying "they are one of best DVD disks you can purchase". Here is my error message. Any assistance for myself (newbie) would be great.

@ dabalina

You're getting a Key Medium Error as well. I'd first try knocking the burn speed down to 4X then 2X if needed and at any rate a change of media would also be a step in the right direction :)

Hi. I am having the same (medium key error) with Nero. It only happens when I choose a burn speed lower than the max of the disc? I use Sony dvd+r and the 1x-4x will burn great at 4x, yet fail at 2.4x.
Same with the sony 1x-8x, they fail at 4x. It has also happened with Memorex. This seems to be a common problem with Nero. I am using shrik with it. No one seems to know about it, but after many burns it seems like it is the speed thing? I have updated firmware, checked dma, updated Nero, uninstalled Nero and reinstalled(in which I had 4 good burns) then in did the same thing again. I don't like making coasters. Someone has to know what is going on. If my ps2 would read iso I would just use decrypter. I have many 1x-8x left and I would rather burn them at 4x- but it fail....any help?

also, if it "doesn't like the media"- why does it burn great at the medias top speed every time?

If it burns well at top speed I don't see any reason why not to. The ultimate goal is to get a successful burn so if its max speed that does it then max speed it shall be until the current stock of media is finished.

true. my only concern was other players reading it. I have a free program called cdcheck. I am confused on this: If I run a burned movie through the cdcheck(or better program,if you know of one) and it has no errors(readability), Is the disc then error free and should play well on any player that can read it. If I ever get another dvd player(which I will), I would like it to play my backups without error. That is the concern for slower burn speeds. Other than that, it seems like the sony dvd+r discs play great on my apex player and ps2 slim.

Nero CD/DVD Speed has a pretty good error scanner too so you may want to run the discs through that as well and yes, if the scans turn up no errors there should be no playback problems relating to a bad burn.

As for buying a new DVD player I'd highly recommend taking some of your burned DVDs with you and test out the players in the store to see which one does the best across whatever range of different media you have :)

I did not know you could test with burned dvd's(in store). I have only used sony, either 1-4 or 1-8x. No problems with those. They play great on my SONY ps2. So,if there are no burn(readability)errors- then it would be a matter of compatability? Like, right now, my sony dvd+r burned at 8x are highly compatible with the ps2 and apex I own. Is the reason people are getting errors burning at faster speeds mainly due to the cheap media and/or compatability?

There are plenty of reason folks have errors burning at higher speeds. Low quality media is the biggest culprit followed by an out of date firmware, crappy burner and/or multitasking while burning. Then you have the standalone players which can vary quite a bit in compatibility. Some will play a tortilla if you stuck it in there and others won't hardly play anything that's been burned. Here's a great resource for getting an idea of which players have the best compatibility:

I've got an odd problem similar to jrg9662's, again with Nero Ultra and the Samsung TS-H552U. Mine burns CD's fine, but *always* throws up the scsi error when about 95% through a full disc burn.

I've updated the firmware and the problem seems to occur no matter what brand media I'm using. Oddly enough, when I simulate a burn it is successfull, but when it comes to the real thing it fails every time. Surely that shouldn't happen?

I'm going to use ForceASPI and the Nero tools to clean the registry and old drivers off the system tonight (I previously had Alcohol 120%, CloneCD and BlindWrite installed), and just to make sure the drive itself isn't faulty I've swapped it for a new one from the shop where I purchased it.

I can't believe that it is this complicated to get the bloody thing to work!

As a final note, I did actually made one successful burn - the week I got the drive. However, after that I tried to rid a badly scratched DVD and my computer locked up, forcing me to reset the machine without shutting everything down (the DVD drive was whizzing real fast for about an hour before I gave up - even eject wouldn't work). I'm hoping that this broke the DVD drive and that my replacement will work... I'll let ya know what happens.

IT WORKED

Pardon the excitement. but I was able to get the dvd to work. I made my way down to Fry's last night and after searching through the millions of different DVD disc's I was able to find the FujiFilm DVD-R discs that were 4x (not 8x like the burner states it can burn at).

I ran home as fast as my little 4 wheels could roll and pop in the disc and hold my breath. After about 10 mintues I had completed my first burn and ran to test it. it F'n worked I said to myself. As time went on I decided to back up another disc straight from the disc (The last one was stored on my hard drive).

This one took a bit longer to complete (about 31 mintues) but again, it worked.

For all of you that has had the issues I have had before, try FujiFilm DVD-R 4x.

Thanks to everyone else for there assistance.
