'bout time i chipped in, i knew some of these discussions sounded familiar - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/173314.

This new thread prompted me to do a mad splurge and buy 175 more 8x Verbs (didn't need any, still had about 70 left), but figure now the 16x are coming out i'd snag some more 8x as i'm real happy with 'em and am slow on the uptake re quality/makes/differences of the 16x as i've been far too busy experimenting with swapping my case & cpu fans to cool down my AMD cpu. Am slowly catching up with the latest Afterdawn posts and keeping eagle eye on Verbatim posts..

u know im a TY guy myself, but, these Verbs lately...are only a hair behind my TY's in terms of personal preference. also, with these sales lately, i might juss have to switch~ :)

well, it'll be awhile before i finish my remaining Taiyo Yudens, but, in the meantime..i might just go into a Verbatim stage for the month of May~ :P

good luck w/ your computer, i used to use AMD solely, but have since switched to Intel since i got my hands on these Extreme Edition chips~ i build comps as a hobby, so, in terms of cooling for your system, if you are using ONLY air, no water cooling, might i advise you look into Zalman cooling products, these are much better in MY opinion than the thermaltakes/coolermaster/etc products out there right now. get an all copper core heatsink and the Zalman fan will keep ur baby cool ALL the time~ arctic silver applied generously brings my setup down another 3-7 degrees too :) hope that helps just a tad FYI~

@kivory666 - i know you're always gonna be in the midst of a Verbatim or TY thread :)

as for the cooling, i'd been having mixed success, but in the end plumped for simply replacing the stock (quiet but crap) case fan with a ys-tech, 4pin so full-pelt and a tad louder, but far more efficient. I did look into allsorts of coolers & even put a better fan on my existing cooler, but so far found up to a 9 or 10 degree gain by just doing the exhaust fan (fantastic gain i thought, idle is now 60C - could be better but i only got a tidgy case). Seems two ys-techs (even with one on 3pin variable speed) in my (limited airflow) tiny case were fighting each other, so just changed the case fan. As for water cooling, the only way i'd do that is if my boat sinks :)

- which it may do with all these Verb tubs i been buying lol

- i'd better start looking into the 16x as i guess the 8x will start disappearing soon, and over here in ripoff Britain i very much doubt they'll get cheaper anytime soon just cus there's 16x on the market...(i think the 4x are still the same-ish price)

i feel sorry for your outrageous pricing over there in Europe, guess i need to count my blessings here for media~

in terms of water cooling, HEHEHE, that was a stupid idea by me, forgot about the whole boat situation~ :)

yea, im always in a TY or Verb thread...juss gotta look, these are the only 2 medias that actually interest me now, so, i stick to what i know and w/ so many laying around, by now, i think i know what i like pretty well don't cha think? hehe.

anyways, best of luck to you w/ your comp setup, the temp is just about right, im running a little cooler, but not by much- 50 degrees, i use a Zalman copper cooler w/ Zalman power supply, it's actually VERY quiet, that's what that company is known for, efficiency+quietness.

have a good one my friend, case fans are a little tricky if you have a few of them all running at same time, i got 4 personally, but, i feel it's enough before i need a backup generator to even operate my computer~ :)

I did order some yesterday. I'm glad because I noticed they are back to $44 today! They will probably be on sale again sooner or later. Whether it's at supermedia or somewhere else.

congrats on getting them on sale~ yeah, i noticed that too, but, im sitting on too many ONCE AGAIN to even bother with the sales :) i got in on a spindle of the 8x dvd-r AND the 8x dvd+r verbs when they were on clearance last week. they pulled the dvd+r verbs very quickly, these are the MCC003's that i have come to really like, im pretty satisfied to say the very least~

have a good one my friend.

@kivory666 with his DVD mountain lol :)

Went into PC World yesterday to buy my 5.1 setup (Creative GD580 - wow does Scully sound better thru this system!). Anyway, while i was in there i noticed they do 50tubs of 8x + and -R Verbs (the one i picked up was 'made in India' so fine by me) for £20, which only equates to a pound or two more than me buying them online, so might start getting them from there. I was very surprised to see anything decent at that price, never mind my prized Verbs.
Oh dear i guess next payday i'll be sitting on my own dvd mountain :)

wouldn't it be nice if we ALL had DVD mountains? hehehe :)

yes, mine is not quite mount everest yet~, but it's slowly getting there.

i use a Klipsch THX 5.1 system on my computer as well, big difference between a 5.1 setup vs. a 2.1 or integrated audio~ hahaha.

sounds like your system is coming along very nicely, keep it going...

as the mountain continues to grow bigger, i become poorer and poorer, is this an even trade? to some most likely NOT, but, to me, MOST DEFINITELY~ :)

Just wanted to update anyone interested on some more Verbatim info I just received. I got my 100 discs from supermediastore today ( 2/50 pks.) and first of all the print side of the discs is different on each stack. One of them looks like the product #94984 which is not datalife plus. The other, I've never seen before so I can't say for sure about that one. I just got off the phone w/ another Verbatim representative and she said that datalife plus discs will actually say "Datalife Plus" on the disc and/or packaging somewhere. These I received today don't. She also said that all datalife plus use AZO and have id code MCC. BUT that doesn't mean MCC=Datalife Plus automatically. All genuine Verbatim DVD discs have an id code that contains MCC but that doesn't mean they are Datalife Plus or even, according to her, that they even use AZO. Sounds like they have some representatives contradicting each other if you read one of my previous posts. But I have to say I'm more likely to believe them than supermediastore. I think supermediastore may be false advertising whether they know it or not. I'm still going to keep these discs. Like I've said before, I love Verbatim and out of 75 DVD-R Verbs used so far, only had one bad burn. Thats almost a 99% success rate! If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm just a little bothered in the way supermediastore is advertising these particular discs. And if you notice,as far as I can tell, these are the only Verbatim's that supermediastore doesn't give a Mfg. part # for. Kind of odd don't you think???

I got these too, and I agree that Supermediastore isn't trustworthy, generally speaking. Everytime I buy something for cheap, I have a eery feeling someone's getting screwed, and if it's not me it's probably laborers working for next to nothing. I like to get good deals, I wish there were a happier medium to choose from. If something happens to my order before it gets here, I won't be surprised, and after reading fishbulb's last post I'm disappointed the representative lied to me. I wouldn't be surprised if she just read the description as I did, instead of checking up on it. Hey, if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't. I hope these Verbatims satisfy.

I talked to a supermediastore tech support person just a little while ago. I told him about my situation: the product, the advertising, and that I talked to a Verbatim rep and what she said. He said he would have to look into it deeper and call me back. Believe it or not, he actually did! He said someone there at supermediastore said that ALL Verbatim DVD discs are Datalife Plus. Now we all know that isn't true! At one point, he even said that they should say "Datalife Plus" on the disc or packaging if they are advertised as such. He contradicted himself! After we had talked for so long, I got the impression he either didn't really know what he was talking about or he was just making stuff up to satisfy me! Either way, I still don't feel they are being honest about this whole thing whether they admit it or not. I'm going to try to contact Verbatim again and tell someone higher up about this and see if they could do something. In the meantime, I'm keeping the discs I got solely on the basis of Verbatim's solid reputation and quality products. I may just have to get my discs from somewhere else from now on.
