Just thought I'd relate my newbie experiences.

EAC does rock, period. Twenty year-old Cds can sound better than thay ever did. Pick one up. As for the compression of audio I've learnt:

1 WAV pcm ~ 2 FLAC ~ 6 mp3 LAME(3.96) ~ 8.5 mp4 neroAAC

Q) If LAME was the first publicly usable version of (V)arible (B)it (R)ate encoding, don't they "own" it?

I've sampled power2go, roxio easy media and nero. It's tough to beat the nero package that comes with recode 2 for compression and burning.

As for player/decoders, I've have noticed that the open source foobar and VLC media player use much less CPU cycles and overall less power. Good for the Battery.

Still bothering me; why do they bother with 2ch tracks on dvd if they're is a 5.1 channel track?
