Hi.
I have a DVD writer SONY DVD RW DRU 500A.
I have always been able to write to DVD-R's with my writer. But lately I was forced to upgrade my Nero as I upgraded to XP Service Pack 2... Since then I get "Reset Occurred" error during lead-in when I try to burn a DVD-R... I have wasted 4 DVDs with this!!!! But, when I tried with a DVD+RW, everything goes fine!!! please help, I've got tons of backup to make...

Thanks

Here is the log from Nero:

Although I can't help with your problem, I do suggest you edit out your Nero serial number.

What brand name and speed rate is this media?

DiskPeripheral : ST3200822A 3.01 viamraid Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : ASUS DVD-E616P2 1.07 viamraid Port 4 ID 2 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-500A 2.0c viamraid Port 4 ID 3 DMA: Off

DMA needs to be on.

The media you are using is the likely culprit. I haven't ever seen that mfg code. If it is poor media, that can throw your ide's into pio mode.

Uninstall your ide controllers, reboot to get them back to DMA or UDMA mode.

Try a small pack of maxell -4x or -8x.Very good media and easy to find.

First, thanks a lot for replying.
Can't be the media because I have been using this for a while now...

The DMA mode I have been trying in vain to turn it on.
My Writer was on an IDE header controlled by VIA Chipset VT6410 (Board: Gigabyte 915P Duo Pro)....
I can't figure out how to change the DMA on the IDE Channels resulting from the chipset. In the properties when I set it to "DMA if applicable", the current transfer mode remains "Not Applicable"...

But when I change the writer to another IDE Header on the board not from the Chipset, I can set DMA on. I did it.

Fine, now I start a simulation with Nero, the simulation starts Fine, hourray!!!! Lead-in passed...

But the simulation fails at 31% now!!!!! With a "Write Error"...

I had the same situatiom, but I have curred it.
(hardware: DELL Latitude 610, LG GSA 4163B DVD burner; software W2k)

First I have installed the drivers for my external enclosure (ALI M5621 chipset). Now it's not an USB device (in device manager) but the IDE ATA/ATAPI USB Storage Device.

Next I have installed the drivers for my PCMCIA USB2.0 card (drivers for the card are from OrangeWare Corporation).

The last thing (I'm not sure its necessary, but it helped me earlier with burning 90% succesfully from laptop HDD without the mentioned drivers installed), I connected the auxiliary power supply to the PCMCIA card (it has the special PS2 cabe provided).

Now I'm able to burn DVDs from intarnal HDD drive in external USB2.0 enclosure to my LG Burner installed in the external enclosure (both connected to the same PCMCIA Card!)

Before that I burnt about 40 coasters for 100 DVDs(reset occured, and sometimes burner and Nero not responding action during lead-in writing).

My solution were DRIVERS!

Ps1. It was very difficult to get the enclosure in the system as an IDE ATA/ATAPI USB storage device. After installing wrong drivers I couldn't make it like this with the proper drivers. I had always the storage device as an USB port device. Only fresh winodws intalation helped.
Ps2. My HDD drive external enclosure usues standard win2k drivers.

Hey there.
My quick and easy solution to the Nero "reset occurred" error is as follows. Try and see!

In Nero goto Recorder > Options > uncheck "DVD high compatibility mode" and leave everything else the same. Happy burning.

Can't be the media because I have been using this for a while now...
- most ppl who start threads like this say this, and even though there are things such as DMA to be set along the way, it still comes down to poor media. A few good burns (or many 100s of good burns on good media in my case) does not mean good films, or copyable films. See my signature for proof. Don't waste your money.

- firmware 2.1A is out now dated 15th May. The firmware you have might be fairly new also, not sure though.

- still got some stuff not in DMA. That'll drag you other devices down. Try here - http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide1.html

Physical memory : 511MB (523756kB)
Free physical memory: 108MB (110920kB)
- you're close to running out of memory, which means that Windows will start 'swapping' ie using virtual memory, which is one of your hard discs. Plus without DMA on one or more of those discs, you're gonna get crappy burns. Coupled with no-name media....hmmmm.... Free up more memory, ie close down more background processes etc, or shutdown the internet, then virus checker etc (hope you use virus checker etc). Anyway, XP hogs mosts of your 512MB, i recently got an extra 512MB as Nero was struggling with what XP would leave of my original 512MB.

Last address to be written: 2234239 (496:29.64, 4363MB)
- that's saying that the disc is 'capable' of holding 4489MB. Your target size seems to be set to 4363MB (or you've only got 4363MB of data to write to this disc). If you used DVD Shrink to create this film, set the target size to say 4300MB - ie further away from the edge of the [crappy] media; if you use other software there's probably a similar setting)

- who on earth makes these discs. I bet you got these real cheap, right ?. Use brand name media or you'll be buying more good (or crap) media to replace these crappy coaster-quality things

- fix your DMA on those other devices or we're gonna be picking faults out of your logfile for ages!. Oh and get decent media.

uncheck "DVD high compatibility mode" and leave everything else the same
- you can try the first half of what ispyispy suggested, ie 'uncheck high compatibility mode', but don't leave everything else the same. Otherwise you'll be back here with many more problems, as are those other ppl who use crap media and don't fix DMA and those other things i've pointed out abive.

Pls report back with your progress, if nothing else, correct info on threads hopefully serve to help other newbies..
