I have used DVD shrink and Nero together in the past and burned several dvds, but recently I can't. It says the recorder doesn't support this type of disk (DVD-R). Could someone tell me what is the problem.

hi

is the recoreder old? or burnt say 2000 dics?

it may need a cleaner discs for dust removal?

have you bought a new type disc than usual? have you burnt from the same spindle ok?

have you recently or in the period of inactivity loaded any new software?

have you tried uninstalling an installing your fav app?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Thanks for the reply,

No, I haven't changed anything! I am using the dvd-r. I have a sony notebook which is fairly new(one year old), and of course DVD Shrink and Nero.

could be that the firmware isn't new enough to recongnise this particular make of disk

Hi,

I followed your advice and this is what I got after identifying my disc:
Unable To Initialize Disc In Time : Not ready - Incompatible medium installed [02/30/00]

what I don't understand is I used the same discs before and burned quite a few dvds.

fbl,

Hmmm, is your dvdrw external? If so usb or firewire? I'm not too familiar with ext setups, maybe Rotary or creaky can help.

It is internal. It is so strange! it worked before with the same type of disc(tdk, dvd-r) do I need any other software beside Nero? what is InCd? Does it have anything to do with my problem?

incd is 'packet writing' software, all i ever read about it is that it interferes. I haven't used anything like packet writing for many, many years. I think most ppl suggest getting shot of p/writing.

i am following a couple epic threads re external burners and/or burners in usb enclosures, and i have a couple enclosures myself (but my burner is internal).

anyway, i think we need a section of your Nero log (minus serial number of course, usually begins with 1A21 or similar). It's in "c:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log"

(cor, i'm listening to 'Aurora - the day it rained forever' thru my new 5.1 setup) ahh bliss !

- soz, i know it's off topic but it helps me type!

fbl,

Try disabling your dvdrw. Go to device manager,dvd/cd-rom drives, double click on the dvdrw, disable at the bottom with the drop down menu, click ok, reboot, windows should recognize and say new device found. If not go back and reenable and reboot. Give that a try.

I did what you said and it worked! but I had to do it again for the second burning, but it didn't work for the third burning. Anyway, thank you all very much for taking the time to solve my problem.
