if the import is an original(not a backup) you dont need a slide card anyway.just eject the swap magic and put in the game.then select PAL boot then press x.if it is a backup then there is a way that involves taking off the cover.

Sweet, I forgot that u only need the swap magic discs to play imports. The japanese game is an original.

*sigh* I tryed to play the original japanese game on my friends ps2 with swap magic(without the tools), and it didnt work! I thought u didnt need the tools to play imports with swap magic. My friend has an older ps2 model, 1 of the big ones. Also how can you tell the type of blank dvd before u buy it? Like maxell has MXLRG01 and MXLRG02.

i dont see how it couldnt work if it was an original game.maybe the older ps2 needed its lens cleaned.you did use PAL boot?if you think the tool is necessary then you could put the disc in manually.

i dont even know how to tell where exactly a disc is manufactured before you buy it.usually the cheapest maxell(when they go on sale)are the low grade maxell.and the ones you buy in the jewel cases and are high priced are the good ones.its not a true formula but how it usually works out.companies know the quality of their manufactuers and price their discs accordingly.but every once and awhile youll find the good ones on sale.its hard to tell until you buy them.

Well, what happens is, when I put the original japanese game in at the swap magic screen, it says not a valid ps2 disc!

did you select PAL boot before you put the game in?

if you want to find out the manufactuer of your discs, downolad dvd identifier from the software section of this site.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm here is a link to it.

that doesnt make sense.but if you still got the game you could still get it to play another way.you have to take off the cover to do it,though.

its not as bad as you think.you just take out the screwa (8-10 screws) out, then remove the cover.there is a ribbon attached from the reset button to underneath the cd tray you have to be careful with(dont yank cover off is what i mean).then there is 4 tiny screws you take off the cd tray and that is pretty much it.you would put the swap magic in and then after it loads you lift off the tray cover then put in the game then put tray cover back on,maybe put something lght on top of the tray cover(probably wont need to but just in case)and then start the game.you said he had an old ps2 so his warranty expired a long time ago.its really harmless,i do it all the time with mine(i like to f**k with stuff),but if he is particular about stuff then you probably shouldnt ask.it depends on how badly he wants to play the game anyway.

Also, do u think if i use a game shark for ps1 games, and use the swap method with the gameshark for psone on ps2,it will play ps1 imports or copies? I heard that for ps1 u had to have the game shark version cdx to play the backups and imports, which i bought on ebay for $5.

well it would have been a learning experience.taking off the cover gives you great insight on how the ps2 operates.

yeah,swap magic doesnt boot ps1 backups or ps1 imports.was that game a ps1 import?

i dont know anything about gameshark.

you need some kind of mod(modification).there are three primary mods(modchips, swap discs, and hd loaders).and its not a question of which is the best but which you would feel more comfortable with and afford.then you would need a dvd burner, basically a dvd drive that is capable of writing data to a blank disc(not a cd burner).if you get a hd(hard drive)loader you dont need a burner but you do need a ps2 network adapter($50).then after you get all that you would come here to get instructions on how to make copies of your games.
