@ acouret,

i burned @ 1x on TDK -r with my sony burner. i just got to level 9 (atually my friend did, but it was on my backup copy). we never encountered those freeze-ups that you were talking about. maybe you should try burning at a slower speed. yes, most people burn slow to avoid errors, it worked for me when i was getting problems before. hope this helps.

is your PS2 a PAL version? is the version of star wars youre trying to backup a NTSC version? if so, that may be your problem there, its not cross compatible like that.
not really,it depends on what mod he has,
i have a PAL ps2,modded with messaih2,it plays both pal/ntsc games fine

I have downloaded a couple of ISO's which have been 2.53GB. I have burned them using Nero and Clone DVD all of them freeze on the title screen (when the Story so far goes up the screen).
I have had it work once directly after I burned my first one with Clone DVD and the game played fine but it won't work again.
Does anybody have any answers????
Can I get past the title screen in any way???

I have tried backing up off my original using Nero and I still get the same results. Am I doing it right, I just use Nero 6 and copy DVD from one to another, it works with my other titles but not this one. Can anybody advise me on a better way of doing it please.

Hey ps2ps2 I had the same freezing problems only not as bad as you, and since doing it this way my backup hasn't frozen once. Try using DVD Decrypter to rip your iso. Get it here:

http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1

Then once that is done, use Nero to burn image to dvd disc(select .iso from the pulldown menu).

Use the slowest speed to ensure an error-free burn and read. That's what I did on another member's advice and it worked for me so far!
Good luck.

Thanks acouret,

I will try this and let you know how I got on.
By the way my original copy has started to freeze in exactly the same place and I cant play that anymore. I have tried turning my Modchip off and it is still the same. I have tried it on another chipped playstation and it still freezes. A neighbour has tried it on his unchipped playstation and it works fine. Could this be a new way of copy protection???? I have a Muppet chip fitted and this is a PAL version game.

Hey ps2ps2, I was actually wondering the same thing about the freezing possibly being anti-piracy somehow. But I also backed up a copy of Champions Return to Arms and it had similar problems freezing at menus during saving and loading, as well as problems with streaming levels and audio/music. The backgrounds stream in this game I assume, as after a while of play I was walking around in total blackness instead of lush background graphics lol. The music seemed to cut out a lot for long periods of time. I doubt this is anti-piracy protection, I think it's just related to the Swap Magic software somehow. My friend has a PSTwo Slim and he has never had any problems with freezing games and he uses Swap Magic 3.3 and uses DVD Decrypter for reading and burning his originals. Although there have been a lot of copies he hasn't tried since he just usually plays the originals. I am gonna see if my copies freeze on his system and I'll let you know. Do you have a Slim, or regular PS2?

Hi acouret, I think I will admit defeat, I have done what you said and used Dvd Decryptor and I am getting excactly the same result. I have already waisted 8 discs doing this so I think its time to give up.
My son has a PS two slim and my daughter has a big PS2 the only common thing about them is the Modchip, both will not play this game. But I have used back ups before and never had a problem.

Cheers

@ps2ps2

What media are you using to burn and at what speed? Do all of your other backups work properly still?

Not sure why it would be giving you problems. This game is a basic 1:1 copy, nothing special about it.

I used 'dvd decrypter' burnt at 1x with Philips dvd+r 4x Max media and it works flawlessly in my slimline with SwapMagic.

Yeah, sorry it didn't help ps2ps2, it sounds like your problem is that muppet mod chip. That's why I prefer the swap magic. doesn't void your warranty and it's removable/upgradable very easily all it takes is a little more effort with booting up from a swap magic disc. Mod chips are a thing of the past as far as I'm concerned with regards to the ps2slim, since the newer tools take 5 min to install and don't require you to open your system. I use the slide card with my bigger ps2, but I think I will trade it in and go for the new PS2 slim+ swap magic and psTwoFix so I don't have to slide every time. I've been in the mod scene for a long time since N64, and this is the cheapest and least intrusive way I've found. If you want information about these just send me a private message. I just hope backing up my original games is this affordable in the next gen of games with blu ray and hd dvd discs coming out.

sorry its been a while since i've been here. i 'm the one that was having problems using burned games with my mod ps2. come to find out that when i got my ps2 mod overseas they did a crappy job that my ps2 can only play region one games and whater region bahrain is in. which really pissed me off cuz i spent money for pretty much no reason. after doing a little lookin around i found somebody that can instll a DMS4 pro modchip (which i keep hearing is pretty good). so now i'm getting that modchip installed and hopefully this one will actually be a good one.

I download a PAL ISO of SW: Episode III, I have a slim PSTwo (USA/NTSC) using Swap Magic 3.3, can I just burn the image and play the game without any problem on my PSTWO, or do I need to apply a patch to the PAL ISO in order to conver to NTSC.

I just ask before damage or lost a DVD-R.

Just burn it, SwapMagic v3.3 has the option to choose PAL to load.

dragulaAC: where is this option located? Under Video Mode options? Now that you burn the game is working propertly?

No problem if I have a USA/NTSC TV?

Sorry for to many question I just want to be 100% sure.

I think it's in Video mode, yes. It converts it from the the PAL game so it works with NTSC, so it shouldn't matter if your tv supports PAL or not.
