I just got it hooked up in the new house and its giving me an error code 05 AHHHH!! I tried removing cleaning and reseating the mod chip (xbit pogo install) and even formatted and reflashed it but still get the error. Does anyone know what else I can do? I even tried booting SLAYER 2.6 TO SEE IF I COULD UNLOCK IT THERE BUT IT WONT RUN THE DISK!!! Please please please help me I need to get back to gaming.

Hi Gary, check you D0 wire!!! I'm 100 percent sure if the modchip is sitting right that your DO wire popped out of place.

OK here comes the Noob sounding bit....whats the DO wire all it has is the chip with pogo pins that fixes to the boadr then a black and yellow wire set that connects to an external board that the usb lead connects to. sorry for sounding so dumb and cheers for the reply.

The D0 wire is what turns the chip on..The little gold wire on the adapter goes into the D0 on the motherboard. If not you'll boot to the original MS dash. What kind of modchip is it?? Well they have solderless adapter but sounds like you have the pinheader install kit with the D0 wire and ground cable. Finally, the ribbon cable is not the problem, it rarerly is unluss to cut or tear it or break the 40pin connector, plus you would get different error codes which I can't remember off the top of my head but one is HDD Timeout and the other is check dvd paramters(Error 7 and Error 9) I think.

error 5 means the hd is unlocked...you must lock the hd if you wish to run the ms dash and retail bios...if you choose to just run the hacked bios and alternate dash there is no need to lock the hd...the d0 point will not give you a error 5...error 5 is a hd error...lock the hd and it should load the retail bios and ms dash.

ok, to run the original tsop(bios) you must have the HDD locked!! What I was saying was if you have a non Oem HDD with a modchip and the D0 cable is not in, the Xbox will boot the original kernal; Therefore, you will still get an error code because you have an unlocked HDD.

hey logik666 try to boot the ms dash with a unlocked hd and tell me what happens....you will get error 5, however you are correct booting a hacked bios can be done with a locked or unlocked hd...but if he plans on using LIVE the hd must be locked to boot the retail bios.

hey guys thanks for all the help so far but My chip is an XBIT and its pogopin so dont think it had a DO wire. Anyways I dont ever use the original bios I have it flashed with X2 and the dip swith is set to only use that but it still only goes to the 05 error. Does anyone know another Bios I can try and where I can get hold of it and see how that goes even email me to avoid breaking forum rules (GARYMCC1@HOTMAIL.COM)cheers again guys for the time you have spent helping me.

almost all cases a error 5 comes when you try and boot the retail bios...so the logical answer would be to tell him to lock the hd...that is my point

Hey guys your both making great point and no one is wrong so why and argue i'd really rather you helped me solve my problem haha. ok just to recap.... I have:

XBIT POGO-PIN type (no soldering so DO must be a POGO-PIN)
flashed - X2
120gb HDD

I tried taking it out and realigning it a few time do you think it may just be fussy and need realigned? all it does is boot to the Error 05 screen then FRAGS and no it wont even boot slayer auto install so would that indicate a problem with alignment?
