I was going through some of the forums about a week ago, and saw some members mentioning that, Intervideo DVD having better picture quality than DVD shrink.

Is it true ?? I went to there website and saw that there was a free trial version. I was going to try it out but, it doesn't have a CSS decrypter. Would you use DVD decypter or Any DVD in the background ??

Also I was looking on Ebay and saw that there are many different versions DVD copy 1,2,3. Which one would be best ? If I were to purchase it??

hi

i use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink both free and very good, it all depends how much compression you are doing for quailty, for big files say 6/7gig most use dvd rebuilder and CCE and some say use cloneDVD2 for good quailty but not treid these yet...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

i must admit that CloneDVD 2 seems to do pretty decent quality @ high compression and is much faster than DVD Shrink...

i have just started using DVDRebuilder again and did a stephen king @ 60% and it looks GREAT. so i will definatrly be using it again for such high compression. the problem is it takes AGES! compared to anything else. and its also a pain to get setup with CCE etc.

I used clone DVD but had many problems with the final product.

Burned movies would skip or just stop.

I do like Shrink but I heard that Intervideo had slight better picture quality and also, that it burned faster.

Does DVD Rebuilder compress movies to a 4.7 GB disc though ??

Here's my opinion:

DVD Decrypter/DVD Shrink combo will reliably produce great backups 99% of the time, using quality enhancements will make even better backups. This combo does take quite a while though, especially with quality enhancements.

There are 2 different versions of the CloneDVD software, made by 2 completely different manufacturers. If you get the one by Elby or Slysoft, that's the good one. You will need to get a decryption program such as DVD Decrypter or AnyDVD (which they give you a great price on if you buy it with CloneDVD2 as a pair). It will produce backups in my opinion just as good as DVD Shrink with quality enhancements, but in much less time. I used the trial version and had a hard time getting it to burn, but that's ok, I used Nero for that.

Intervideo DVD Copy 3 produces better quality backups than DVD Shrink and CloneDVD2 and works very fast (just slightly slower than CloneDVD2), but I used the trial and had some pretty goofy stuff happen to my backups, so I ditched that one. Everyone else seems to be using it without a problem, so I just chalked that one up to my system setup.

The absolute best in my opinion (and many others) is the DVD Rebuilder/Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE) combo. It takes longer than any of the previously mentioned programs, but what you get is well worth it in my opinion. If you decide to go this route, make sure you have a good system. I use an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ CPU with 1GB of RAM, and transcoding a movie takes me usually about 2-3 hours.

Wow Squizzle 2 hours ?!! That's almost double the time of Shrink.

My system is an AMD Athlon 2.1 GHZ, 80 GB hard drive, & 512 MHZ memory.

Is that enough for Rebuilder ??

Have any of you people ever heard of OneClicktoDVD 4.1.1.8. It comes with a free version of CopytoDVDSE and has the fastest download times with the best compression on the market. You will have to use DVD43free or AnyDVD running in the background, but for the price 59.00 USD you cant beat it. Just make sure to use quality media.

Your system is good enough for dvdrb/cce, but your system will take much longer than 2 hours.I just did a 3 hour movie, and it took over 4 hours on a smaller system then you have.
You can do a batch encode, while you sleep,so you wont even notice how long it takes. The quality is well worth the wait. IMHO

RB/CCE is without a doubt the best backup software out there without spending thousands. It does cost $58 for CCE basic but Rebuilder, Avisynth and the decoders are free. Intervidio DVDCopy3 (make sure you get 3 not 1 or 2) IMO and other seniors and addicts, such as bbmayo and brobear,is the next best app. You can use dvd decrypter or anydvd with it. It is one of the fastest apps and has superb quality especially where a lot of compression is required. It of course is not free either, $59.

RB/CCE will not only compress movies to a dvd5 but it will compress over 8 GB dvd9 to a dvd5 without any noticable quality loss. I have a 52" big screen and can not tell any difference between the original and the backup. DVDCopy3 is not far behind.

I love the batch encode feature on Rebuilder. I did 5 movies once with that while I was at work. When I got home, it was on the last one. I couldn't have done 5 movies with Shrink in that amount of time unless I left work and came home. I usually do my encodes while sleeping or working.

dabig25,

Yes.... InterVideo Dvd Copy 3 platinum is much faster and it can produced quality better than DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. However, it is not "free" though. The feature is more easy to use and I think you can even back up from a dvd movie into "vcd/svcd/divx(mpeg4)/vr/wmv", which I haven't done it yet. My os is XP sp2, P4 2.67Ghz, 512MB Ram, 80GB HD and I can back up any 2hrs new dvd movie in "full disc" roughly from 50mins - 1hr (depending on how much extras and features on the original dvd) with my Sony Dru 710a-BYX4 DL burner. If I just want to do a "custom" for the main movie only, then it's somewhere from 35 - 50mins (depending on how long is the movie), and if I do a back up from an already backed up dvd-r, then it's anywhere from 15 - 20 mins. For the above backing up procedures, I used 8X or little higher medias only. Overall, I'm pretty much satisfy with the quality and performance.

I've heard that DVD RB/CCE can take up to 2 - 4 hours for a "full disc" back up and can produce highly quality picture in result. However, I'm not a time consuming type of person, plus I hate to wait over 2 - 4 hours long just to do a single back up copy. In the end, the choice is yours to make because everyone is entitled to their own judgement. So just use whatever that floats in your boat. Honestly, I think "Shrink and Decrypter" is not that bad at all. In addendum to Shrink and Decrypter, they can produce good quality too if you have the time to spend by doing a "deep analysis" in prior to back up. Afterall, you've got "nothing" to lose - especially they're free to use.

Yeah,

I'm NOT disatisfied with Shrink & Decryter at all, don't get me wrong. I like them both, there easy to use ,and they don't take too long to burn but. I was just curious to see if there was a way to get better picture quality then Shrink and I heard that there was . I think I'll keep using Shrink, Decryter, & Clone DVD2. I'll wait for Rebuilder to make there download easier to understand. Thanks for all of your input and opinions.

I'd still like to see other members inputs as well.

I thought it was pretty simple. I created a folder in Program files called DVD Rebuilder and extracted all the files there. Then follow the guide here: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd_rebuilder_tutorial.cfm to set it up. Every time there is an update I just replace the Rebuilder.exe file with the new one, that way you won't have to go through the setup process again.

As squizzle says, download everything, and extract it all in the same folder, so when you update it,the ini file will remember your previous settings. That way you dont have to re-configure everytime.

alkohol, I´ve used Intevideo DVD Copy 3 and I think the image quality is the best I´ve got, except for Rebuilder, but I keep getting menu glitches after I encode the movie with Intevideo DVD Copy 3. Do you know anything about it?
