i've searched and searched and can't seem to find a working solution to this problem.
the problem i am having is with certain .avi (xvid/divx) files cannot be converted to mpg's.
i am using TMPGEnc 3.0.4.24 XPress.
when i try to convert these files,
a. in the cut/edit section, if i move the tracking bar, it says "An error occurred during a transmission with the VFAPI Frame Server."
b. if i try to encode it or preview the output, it says "Invalid sample format. (error code 0x80048002)"

rearranging the plugins in the priority list does not change anything.
and my media players will play the file just fine, so i assume i have the right codec. could there be a special codec or plugin that i am missing?
i have also seen reference to frameserving in VirtualDUB first and then converting with TMPGEnc. does anyone know about this? can someone explain or give me a link to an explanation?

here is the file's properties from GSpot.
vid codec: xvid
stream type: OpenDML AVI
bitrate: 1485 k/s
audio codec: ac3

if you can be of any help or need any more info, please tell me.

Sorry, no clue. The file might be corrupt. Maybe by loading that AVI with BSPlayer you'll receive a warning.
Try separating the corrupt point (you'll detect it by looking the TMPGenc mpeg output; TMPGenc 2.5 manages to convert the AVI, until the AVI corruption blocks it) by a working one with VirtualDub..

Hi,

I had difficulties with xvid until I found a handy little program called "four cc changer". You can get it from doom9.org under AVI editing tools section in their downloads or just google search it. What it does is allows you to basically fool TMPGEnc Xpress 3.0 into thinking you have a DIVX instead of an XVID. You just open the program and click the box "..." and select the file. Then use the drop down menus and select DIVX for both the Four CC Description code and the Four CC User code. Click "Apply" and you are done. If you are still having difficulties with the codecs I downloaded a program called "media player classic" and I havent had a problem since.

Post back for more info if needed.
