I am using DVD Shrink and Nero. DVD Shrink will work but when it goes to burn it just sits there not doing anything. Any help would be appreciated.

meesch this must be ESP at work. I was just about to post and ask the same question.

Using DVD43 in the background for RCE bypass/decryption, with either Recode2 (preferred) or DVDshrink'n Nero for the copy or rip n burn. Decrypter gets 'unholstered' for the DVD43 resistant titles.

strange...

Can you manually burn with Nero?
Have you tried to burn with Decrypter?
Does Nero error out? If so can you post the error log?

Not sure to whom you are addressing your question squiz, but if me, then I don't understand what it is that you're actually asking unless you're assuming I tried and failed using the previously mentioned 'goodies'?

Measure twice cut once.

Preferring other than trial and error methodology, I haven't actually tried to burn episodic discs yet, but I want to. I am given to understand that unless one does a verbatim copy, which ain't gonna happen trying to squeeze DVD 9 to a 5 blank, problems present with 'shrink et al?

For normal re-authors or copies using DVD43, I have no problems ripping & resizing with Shrink and burning with Nero. I have no problems ripping, resizing and burning with Recode2.

I only resort to DVD Decrypter on discs that spit the dummy at DVD43. Once unencrypted with DVD Decrypter (fantastic proggy Lightning!) and resident on my HD, I've found I can compress and burn with any of the plethoria of burning apps.

Not sure if any of that answers what you were looking for, but I tried.

I suppose I should have previously phrased my question to ask, is there anything special one has to do to rip several episodes and prevent them from being immediately contiguous end and beginning wise?

I was asking meesch actually.

As far as episodic DVDs, Shrink and Decrypter shouldn't have a problem at all, just be careful of the compression. I've never used DVD43. I use AnyDVD instead.

Episodic disks are no different from normal disks except they normally require a bit more compression - just finished a rip that was compressed at 57% (4 episodes). Picture quality is fine.

Recommended method - rip with decrypter in file mode; open files in Shrink for compression; burn with Nero.

Thanks colw & squizzle. Is there any way you can delete the inter-episodic menus to reduce compression whilst still maintaining episode separation?

Copy that just rip 'n re-compressing them to fit DVD5 is a reauthoring no brainer.

I was able to burn manually with Nero. I think I had a bad bunch of blank DVDs. I opened a new pack and used it and it worked. Thanks for the help.

@ sigrun: you could tell Decrypter or Shrink to get rid of the menus. Not sure if that'll get rid of inter-episode menus though. (I'm assuming you mean where it asks if you want to play episode or go to main menu, etc.)

Thanks for the advice squizzle. Done. Accomplished with my favourite tools, DVD43 & Recode2.

In order to fit in to DVD5, I opted to denude the rip of everything except the episodes themselves. In this case 2X 60min titles per orig DL disc.

I could have simply copied, but upon checking, the compression was too severe. The two titles ripped magnificently, ending up at about 80-85% of the originals. Titles are contiguous, but with a defined stop and start between them. A happy camper!
