I have noticed most people use DVD -R, is this for the same reasons that people use more DVD -R for movies? (compatability)

I have the 8 screw USA model, and I just bought a pack of Maxell DVD +Rs. I saw somewhere that Maxell DVD -R was very nice for PS2 backups, and also saw somewhere that DVD +R have been used by some with success. Am I in for a lot of headache and wasted DVD +Rs? I'm about to test it out on Final Fantasy X, wish me luck!

And just so there is no confusion, I bought the DVD +Rs without ever reading anything online, just bought my first DVD burner and some discs cause I was in a rush. I will not be taking these DVD +Rs back, if anything I'll use them for data storage and go buy some DVD -Rs just for movies/PS2 later on. Oh and how to DVD +R movies fair on the PS2? (its what I use for playing DVD movies too)

older ps2's have a hard time reading +r discs, but if you got your ps2 in the last year or 2, you can use + or -r discs.

I have a PS2 that is at least 3 years old, it is the chubby 8 screw USA model. GranTourismo 3 works perfectly, I did a 16x read / 8x write with a Maxell DVD +R and it worked first try with Swap 2.0 (also quite old) ... beginner's luck?

the 10 screw versions are the ones that have the biggest problem with +r. If your's reads +r, its should be ok.
