I am also having the same problem with a Xvid AVI file trying to create a DVD. Video is choppy. Also when I go from the title sample screen to the burn screen it pops up the message:

Your project contains more PAL than NTSC material, but will be encoded in NTSC if you use the current settings. Do you want to change the settings to PAL, so that your project will be encoded in the video mode that matches the majority of the project's contents? saying that most of my video content is PAL but my setting are set for NTSC.
I want to burn NTSC, maybe that has something to do with it? I have run GSpot and everything seems fine, I have proper codecs, etc...

Also, you mention you viewed the DVD straight from harddrive, which option did you use to save the files to harddrive? (Write to harddrive folder -or- burn to image recorder?) Also what program did you use to view straight from harddrive (i.e. how did you get your DVD playing software to open that file?)

Thanks!

I figured out how to play the image from my hard-drive. silly me, just select "Write to harddrive folder" then in PowerDVD select source as file from harddrive.

One other thing I noticed is with the DVD I did burn (and discovered the choppy playback on) and the harddrive image, the PC displays very corrupt video. It is blocky and it seems the horizontal hold is broken, there are blocks of horizontal rows that seems shifted from the ones above and below it. There also seems to be a lighter version of the image offset horizontally, very strange. This corruption only occurs on the PC, video works fine on a real DVD player (except its choppy there)... I am trying to set a video mode (standard) rather than have it set to automatic.

Newbie question: If you use DivxToDVD to create VOB files (because Nero makes choppy video), can you still utilize the menus created via Nero?

I used Divx3DVD and the VOBs it generated are still choppy! The framerate on the original source is 25fps and plays on the PC just great, it doesn;t play well when converted to VOB by either Nero or Divx2DVD. Anymore ideas would be great!

Terbear,

I have had success on a number of occasions using DivXtoDVD to convert from Xvid-AVI to VOB format and then authoring using MyDVD.

This thread was started in an attempt to have Nero do the whole job.

Using MyDVD will probably not work for you however if the playback is choppy or faulty in some way from the hard drive.

If playbakc is faulty in some way on playback from the Hard Drive I would think that there is a problem either with the source file or the conversion settings. Someone with greater experience than me on this site will probably be able to suggest a solution for you.

Happy burning,

Hello all,

Well to my surprise, NeroVisionExpress 3 has now managed to successfully convert one of my downloaded Xvid.AVI files from its downloaded state to a workig DVD.

I was even able to cut out an unwanted scene in the editing function prior to conversion.

The file transferred without error and transcoding and burning were completed within the actual running time of the featured file.

I did burn to Hard Drive then to disc as a precautionary exercise.

I am very pleased the NVE is able to perform this function.

I can only assume that the previous files I was trying to convert were all corrupted in some way.

Information provided as an update to a problem listed.

Happy Burning everyone.

Are you still seeing slight stutters during the playback of your movies after coverting them from AVI? If so can I ask on Nero vision express are you enabling the option to burn in chapters? If so I suggest disabling this option and try buring the movie again from AVI.

r45301,

To answer your question, No. The latest conversion included chapters and plays perfectly. In fact, for whatever the reason it works on my set top player on a TY01 media disc. Up until now they have been very hit an miss on that particular player (they work in everything else I have.).
