I know how to burn music cd's but I'm new to the whole dvd burning thing. I just got a new computer with a dvd burner last week and I'm really confused and need some help. My problem is that I'm not sure the program I have will burn a dvd because every time I try, it says it wont because of some CSS code. So I've been reading up on this website and I've learned about certain programs you can download such as the decrypter, that will get rid of the CSS code. My question is, should I go ahead and download decrypter, or should I keep trying to find a way to burn a dvd using my current program. The reason why I ask is because I dont know much about computers, and I keep thinking that maybe there's a way to be able to burn a dvd w/o having to download something, but I'm just too stupid and haven't figured it out yet. The program I have is called cyberlink powerstarter. Anybody ever heard of this?

Welcome!
You are on the right track. Yes -start with DVD Decrypter and add DVD Shrink (free also and plenty of guides here for both and you can try ScubaPet's at http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/index.htm.
Decrypter will take off the latest protections and Shrink will shrink it to fit to a single layer disc. You definitely need a program to remove the copy protections - you will not find a way with Cyberlink.

binkie,
Sounds good but I have a question though...if I download both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, is it going to take up a bunch of space on my computer and make it slower?

Shrink and Decrypter are very small downloads - less than 1Mb apiece.

They will not impact on your computer speed.

If you are worried about space - be aware that for succcessful DVD burning you are going to need a minimum of 10GB free hard disk space.

Got it, thanks! I can't believe how easy it was to do. Major props to ScubaPet cause with out their guide, I wouldn't have been able to do it.

Now you're well on you way to successfully burning DVD's. If you run into any other problems search the boards - there is a wealth of info here. One parting piece of advice - make sure you use good media. Check out #4 in bbmayos post: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136
Happy burning!
