I have a Ps2 modded and I burned a full spindle of games with DVD-R (generic) and every game has no problems loading. Pop it in and it loads on cue.

After that spindle I bought some generic DVD+R and every single game has problems loading. Like the burns were fine and the games work, but often I have to restart maybe 5 times for some, before it will read the game. This is pretty annoying. Yet when i use discs off this spindle for DVD movies they load no problem on my DVD player.

Therefore I am wondering is it this way for most mod chip PS2 users? Do DVD-R work better then DVD+R or is it that +R's work just as good as -R's, but maybe the quality of the +R's I bought were poor?

Thanks for the help

Use Quality Media I use
Verbatim dvd+r

***** BURN AT NO MORE THAN 2X****** <-----------(IMPORTANT)
TURN OFF ANY BACKGROUND APPLICATIONS

ps2 games run more often and more sparratically off of the media,
You will get skipping audio/video by using cheap media or burning too fast.

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

The following list is in preference order.
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:

MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:

RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes

Possunt Quia Posse Videntur.

if your ps2 works better with dvd-r than dvd+r then stick with dvd-r

yes it could mean that the +R are of poorer quality then the -r you bought. It also might mean that your ps2 system prefers -r to +r. as far as the whole burning no faster than 2X goes, I used to be a very firm believer that the slower you burn the better I used to not go faster than 1X. then I tried 2X and everything was ok so I finally tested out 4X and everything is still going ok. I've used both - and + r ritek and they both work on my V7.

thanks guys, im gonna try burning slow, see if it makes a difference, i personally dont believe so because the first spindle I had that were generic dvd-r I burned every game at 16x and never had a problem. But i will try it with this cheap media and then if that doesnt work I will try a DVD-r spindle. If i notice the same trend then i will stick with that.
