WinAvi encoding problem

Guys I have a problem. Whenever I try to convert a file with the .mpg extension to DVD with WinAvi I always get an error message saying that im missing the compatible MPEG/DVD codec, we recommend you install it or WinAvi maybe cannot convert VOB/MPG file to other format correctly. Then it says that i can get the codecs from WinAvi website which I cant seem to find. I converted a few .avi files ti dvd with no problem but seem to get this message when I do it with .mpg. And another thing. After I hit ok on the error message it still converts but the finished product does not work. Any suggestions?

it just sounds like you dont have the codec installed, try loading FFDShow there are many codec packs here on afterdawn in software section i think?
