Is your Hdd FAT or NTFS? This is a common problem for FAT drives (I don't know the technicalities, but I do know it's a issue)

I really don't know. I remember installing windows xp on my computer and it required a specific kind. If windows xp requires one type, then that's the one i have.

Ok, go to My Computer, and highlight the C: Drive, or the drive you're using for the games. Look at the details in the task pane. See if it says FAT32 or NTFS.

omg no, its fat. it always shows the external hard drive on the right side, so i automatically checked that one. when i went to double check it turned out to be the wrong hard drive. so its FAT (the one i always use). the other one is NFTS, and it also has enough space

FAT partitions don't support files sizes over 4GB. Google the conversion syntax FAT32 to NTFS), dunno what it is off hand.

On a side note, you can install XP with a FAT partition although it is usless and pointless.

Well then that explains it. If you have enough space on your other drive then I would suggest you use that one.
