my question is what speed cd is better for burning ps2 games, i know a lot of people would say 2.4x but the thing is on a 8x you can still pick to burn at 2.4x right, and i also think that if you get the 8x you can choose to write slower if you want to. Would getting the 2.4x be better overall?

thanks

You dont want to burn ps2 games at 8x.
For optimum performance you want to burn at 2x or slower.
But if your using 'quality media' you should be ok at 2.4x
for ps2 games.
(Movies you can burn at 8x no problems though)

I get better more burn's burning at 4x all the time. I've burnt a few at 2.4x lately and the game did not work right. For example Mightnight club 3 at 2.4 did not work right at all. But at 4x it's fine. I have a lite-on 832sDL with verbatim dvd+r's with the ps2 v12.

I always burn at 4x speed aswell, if I burn slower I get slowdowns. I think its just a case of trying out different speeds and whatever works for you. I use maxell DVD-R media :)

The speed only matters if you have a slow computer. Since the laser go around the coaster to write the info on it. If somehow your computer doesn't response at certain location on the coaster, the coaster will dry out. In this case it might be because your computer slow, or your computer is fast but you're doing something else while you're burning the disc cause the computer stops responding at tah time. It turns out that your disc either will be screwed up right at that moment. Either the computer will say "Buffer under run error" or the disc can be screwed up once you finish it. If you have a very fast computer, and quality discs, it don't matter which speed you burn.

I burn at 8x and 6x all the time and have never had a problem. I dont believe the speed of burning is an issue unless the disk doesn't work properly. Then that should be your first thing to change. I use TDK DVD-R most everytime and never have issues.

Ever since I started making backups of PS1 games years and years ago, I have never burned at "he slowest speed possible." If your blank media is high quality (not cheapo generic stuff) and you burn at the speed that it's rated for, you shouldn't have any problems. I never have problems burning Ritek at 8 speed in my Pioneer 108 burner. Never.

I burned midnight club 3 at 4x and the game took about a minute to load a race. So I decided to burn at 8x and the game loads the races in mere seconds now. I think it has a lot to do with your burner and the media you use. The best way is to try different media and speeds and see what works the best for you. There is no set speed everyone should burn thier ps2 games at. Its different for everyone.
