check out ScubaPete's guide (link is in my sig) and look for where he talks about Decrypter tweaks and follow what that says.

squizzle,
thanx for the suggestion. i did go to scuba petes and followed the guide but im still getting the same errors from shrink (no css key) and dvdD:
I/O Error!
device:[1:0:0:} matshita uj-810 c102 (F:)(ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
interpretation: check condition

CDB 28 00 00 00 04 DA 00 00 20 00

Interpretation: Read of Scrambled Sector Without Authentification

and any dvd:

failed to read DVD!
this could have several reasons:

1 dvd is dirty ( its not)

2 dvd is damaged ( it plays fine, no scatches)

3 drive is region locked ( its not)

4 drive has not been assigned a region ( wrong)

I assume you have the latest Decrypter update. You can try 2 other options. Download the trial version of AnyDVD or the free version of DVD43. Both can be run behind Shrink as an extra decrypting driver. If they don't work you probably are getting original dvds with bad pressings. They play OK but won't rip. The disc will look perfect as new but will have corrupt data areas.

What are your system specs. Here are a few things to check.

HD space---at least 10gig free.
Ram--------256mb may work, better with 512mb or more.
Check IDE channels, both need to be on DMA not PIO.
No programs running in background using resources.
No multitasking while doing a backup.

I just listed these because I'm guessing now. Something has to be causing the problem and since it is random it may be system related.

I have alot more success with just using Shrink without using Decrypter. I just did "national treasure" tried it with decrypter and got key errors however I used shrink and got the same errors however this time it found the keys and decoded them. The copy is perfect and working 100% Try using just shrink on your problem movie and you might have success.

FYI, I've done Princess Bride and Paparazzi, Zero problems !

Hard drive space is very inportant - you should have 12 to 15 GB (Plus some extra for your HD to wiggle in . . .)

Did you Defrag your drive ?

Re-check that you have the latest upgrade for AnyDVD and DVDD ? As of this date, there isn't any DVD encryption that tose 2 cannot break . . . :)

WHEN RIPPING A TROUBLESOME DVD or an episodel DVD, I use DVD Decrypter in the ISO Mode -

REASON: When you rip a DVD in the "File" Mode, you only copy the file structure. When ripping a DVD in the "ISO" Mode, you copy the entire disc just as it is. Every nuance, camera angle, etc.

When ripping in the "ISO" Mode, we want to create a folder to hold our ISO image files. You will have an .ISO file and a .Mds file. Not to worry, DVD Shrink makes picking up an ISO image as easy as pie. Open DVD Shrink and go to "File" - "Open Disc Image", "Browse" for the folder you created to hold your Image files and select the .Mds file. Yes I know, the size is very small and it seems that the entire DVD is held in the ISO file BUT everything will open fine. Let DVD Shrink pickup the file and then process as usual. If you want to use another proggy, you can use ISO Buster to change your ISO Image back to your VOB files, it only takes a second to convert them.

ISOBuster, http://www.smart-projects.net/isobuster/

Next, try some "Scuba-tricks" -

1. This is a bit "wacky" BUT it has worked for some pple. Rebooting your PC (cleaning out all the memory) allows some discs to be seen better - As I said, it can't hurt and it's worth a try -

2. Begin by playing your DVD with your PC's player. Play the main feature for two or three minutes then open DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter or your weapon of choice. - As soon as you begin your rip turn off your player so it doesn't interfere with your analyzing. The playing beforehand is only so that your ripping program can "Find" your DVD.

3. The "Magic cleaning" technique: Try cleaning your DVD discs. Yea, I know they're new and clean but do it anyway. Do it a few seconds before inserting it into your DVD tray, use a disc cleaner, eyeglass cleaning solution or 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft cotton cloth and rub-a-dub, dub. As soon as you're finished, "Pop" it into your DVD tray and fire up your program.
You would be surprised how many times your disc is now "seen" and works like a "Bad Dog". :-)

Give the above a try and report back,

Pete

I have the latest version of shrink for the person who asked. As for troublesome disks, I have to tell you some movies dont work on one of my computers so I use my second burner and it works on one or the other. For whatever reason (possible out of alignment or whatever) however I have done every movie with 100% accuracy when I use two computers. I have never been able to explain why one particular movie will not copy and its not because of a scratch on the original or any other kind of defect I have tried many originals of the same movie after a particular movie pissed me off. I was stopped everytime till I tried my 2nd drive and it worked flawlessly without even a single problem. I suggest purchasing two drives they are so cheap these days less than $40 with rebate at your local office superstore. When something new comes out buy the new drive etc etc. Why drive yourself nuts with errors and problems when its a possible hardware problem. Im telling you right now 100% of all movies can be copied with shrink, if you cannot copy one or more you have a hard ware problem or software too but with two computers the odds of the same problem on two different operating systems is huge and probably not going to happen.

you have some hardware issues it looks like, megabyte2. Maybe 2 devices hooked up on the same IDE channel as the same thing (master or slave). Have you tried updating the firmware on the burner that's giving you problems? Maybe the burner's just getting burned out (no pun intended).

nah no issues, every once and a while I get a disk thats troublesome and I just use my second burner and no problems at all then. I agree there is something goofy but rather than try and figure it out for 1% of the movies I have trouble with I just use the other computer and that 2nd computer also cannot copy some movies so I use the first etc and with the two computers I get 100%. Dont ask me why things are like this but this system works fine and at the cost of burners these days its easier to have multiple burners and not deal with MS windows stupidity.
