I noticed that I've been getting read errors or my backup will freeze during gameplay ever since I started backing up games by putin reading speed at 1x and writing speed at 1x. Is it better if I just burn the game at 1x or will it be better if I read it at 1x and burn it at 1x?

Well, i have tried it a few different ways. When i read the disc i do not set anything, just let it read at the default speed.
When you take the ISO and burn it to a disc on the other hand, that is when you should choose 1X speed. It will not usually burn at that speed anyway, the speed will depend on what speed your discs are.
I have recently started burning all my stuff at 4X and that has also worked just fine.

The speed only matters if you use bad discs like Memorex, otherwise speed won't matter. If you have a bad burn, it just simply means the discs are bad.

i always burn my discs(ridata g4) at 4x. no problems at all.
