I am a newbie, but I find there is alot of experience on this site that i can learn from. I have an e-machine tower 566ir. Yes I know an old machine, but that is what I have. What are the minimum system requirements needed to start ripping and burning dvds? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

to add to the list:
-atleast 10 free gigs would be beneficial, many movies'll need 7-9 these days.
-dvdr media (+ or -)
Out of curiousity, what's your processor speed in there?

Thanks guys for your replies. Let me give you some more info on my machine. Running windows 98, 566 Intel Celeron, 64 mb ram, 15.3gb hard drive. Guys try not to laugh at my primitive machine. I am willing to upgrade, but I would like to know if it possible with what I have?? As a minimum, I know I would have to add a dvd burner, and additional hard drive, and I can upgrade the ram to 128 mb. Would I be better off getting a new machine? Any suggestions?
Thanks again

I'd definitely get a new machine. Even one of those ones for $400 they're always advertising would be ok.

I would like to know if my system qualifies as well:
here are the specs:
shuttle crap motherboard
pent 1.7ghz cpu
ATI 64mb all-in-wonder video card
LG 16X dvd burner
80 gig hard drive
256mb sdram
I am using cyberlink software to produce dvds but it always freezes my system.
any advice?

You should be fine with those system specs (Another 256 of RAM would help though.) It could be other software e.g. firewall or antivivirus running that are causing the crashes (make sure you don't have loads of other programs running at the same time as your trying to burn your dvd's)
Dont slip or youll break it!

I agree. But me, I'm generally not the "go for minimum kinda guy."
